    Educated: A Memoir

    • I appreciated both the author’s story and the engaging way in which it was written
    • It seemed vengeful to me, as though it were written in part as a way to punish them
    • The way that Tara has written this book makes it easier to digest some of the topics that she covers in her book
    • Loved the way it was written and the information presented
    • She described her life story with such skillful imagery and wrote in such a captivating way that her story will swallow you as it did me
    • There are other odd things in the book, but I will just wrap up by saying that the best way to enjoy “Educated” is to think of it as a novel instead of as a memoir
    • Tara Westover overcame so much more than typical teens and ordinary, unaware parents; she found her way to a safer, saner, more full life, while appreciating the complexities of real life and how crazy-making it can be without being defeating.
    • What a wonderful way to tell the store of a young girl growing into a sell reliant woman
    • The way to freedom is always a hard way , but when looking back it worth every step, can’t wait for her second book
    • I struggled my way through the first half of the book, but found myself devouring the second half
    • The way she writes her stories and the inspiration of them is incredible
    • I enjoyed the way the author was honest without showing judgement.
    • I liked to understand and realize that education is a wonderful Way for comprehending yourself, your family, your society, your culture, your tradition, your psychological setting and your environment to have better diverse, balanced and rational perspectives to choose who you want to become and to become the person you want to become
    • I liked the way Tara told her story, how she overcame her family environment, deprivations and abuse
    • This is the perfect example—if you tried to write a fiction book with these “characters,” they would seem WAY over-the-top and unbelievable
    • So unreal, no way can this much drama happen every chapter
    • The things Tara endured are shocking & terrifying but she has managed to capture the story of her psyche through it in a truly incredible way that at times feels relatable.
    • But her family called themselves “Mormons”, yet as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I couldn’t recognize the foundation the dad stood on; when I did, he twisted Church beliefs into a diabolical way which gave him unrighteous power over his wife and children
    • Not since, Being Mortal, has a book “Educated” me, in a profound way
    • The way to freedom is always a hard way , but when looking back it worth every step, can’t wait for her second book
    • Glimpse an unreal way of life that very few know, and get inspired by one girl's ability to change her life
    • Such a great book that translates the nuances of the characters is a very realistic way that only someone that lived the events can put out there.
    • This book invaded my life in a most wonderful way
    • The abuse at the hands of a family hypnotized by a strict way of life was shocking, and yet, Tara's resilience shines even brighter
    • Combining this with the authoritarian family structure, with the family’s isolation and denial of the greater society, even Mormon society, with a survivalist approach to life in which the end times were about to befall them every day, the only suitable way to characterize the environment in which Tara grew up and which, through her own will and instinctual intelligence, she was able to escape, is toxic
    • It seemed like a very difficult way to live, but if any of us said anything to these kids, or asked too many questions, the kids would get vehemently defensive - sometimes violently so - about their family and their lifestyle
    • Tara is a great writer, a wonderful way with words - I struggled to stop reading and was moved by what she went through
    • Educated is a fantastic story of a women realizing there is so much more to the world then just her tight-nit family, she developed her own perspective of the world and the events that have taken place throughout history, and ultimately become an educated individual who can weigh the pros and cons of serious political topics for herself and not just vote or decide that one way is forever correct
    • Could t out it down, it’s both astonishing, but the way she writes makes you empathize with the complicated human emotions around each event
    • The triumph of the human spirit , the compassionate way she deals with her abusive father ( in telling memories
    • I loved the way Tara Westover told the the stories of her upbringing
    • Love has a weird way of holding us in a place, even if it isn't good for us
    • Liked the way the story was written even though the actual life of that person was a little frustrating for me.
    • Thank you, Tara for your insight and your wonderful way of writing.
    • I loved the way she said if God allowed her to pass the ACT then He was in charge
    • What an amazing way to come out on the other side of this childhood
    • Love has a weird way of holding us in a place, even if it isn't good for us
    • A story that's been done before, both in better ways and more likeable people.
    • It had come from those moments on the floor, from knowing that Mother was in the next room, closing her eyes and ears to me, and choosing, for that moment, not to be my mother at all.”Educated by Tara Westover is the true story of a woman who truly rose above the hardships and abuse she suffered as a child and against all odds found peace, healing, and worked her way through a doctorate.
    • How the author survived to adulthood is a minor miracle, but it’s clear she is not yet free from the demons of the past nor ready to add value or contribute to the betterment of society in any meaningful way despite her “education
    • The parents’ backward ways and lack of knowledge angered me in so many ways.
    • I should think that abuse as brutal as she described and the family denial will take her much longer to recover from than she describe
    • Tara’s story might help people to better understand who they are and inspire them to make themselves a fundamental change in their lives, as well as it might help the world, the public opinion, and people in position of leadership to better understand the dramatic lives of people isolated from education and health services
    • Furthermore, like her old sect, her new religion will reward her so long as she follows its tenets.
    • Brave as in everything she went
