Kit and instructions actually teach you how the radio works as well as how to assemble it

This kit is wasted on those looking for a soldering kit, many better choices in that respect (although if you want to build a truly nice radio you'd spend a great deal more as well).You will need an oscilloscope and a signal generator that will modulate your test signal at various frequencies (so the old 1000hz test signal isn't enough to perform all tests as suggested)

If you hope to build an awesome radio there are much better kits

The circuit board is done in a schematic diagram manner which enhances the educational value.

They sell a signal generator kit that would probably work well enough and is low cost

Having an RF Signal generator, and oscilloscope can greatly enhance the experience of assembling the radio.

Very pour design, Lead free solder is useless, Very hard to tune and keep in tune.

While some of the instruction is a bit advanced without less-complex explanations of the principles, (Reminder: this is an AM/FM Radio Learning project not a Basic Electronics Project) the price for the components, well thought out design, instruction, and ease of construction is well worth the price!

The manual is good (good font type and size)

After the first page of the instructions my daughter complained that the soldering was difficult

We purchased an inexpensive soldering iron at the local hardware store, as well as some better solder.

Still, the instructions help you get through the alignments without fancy test gear.

"Static" tests can be performed using a standard VOM, but if you prefer to perform the more advanced tests you can also do those using a RF Generator and Oscillator.

In the end the best test gear you have are your own ears, and tweaking the radio is a lot of fun that way.

The idea behind this kit is great, but unfortunately the instructions are outdated and the testing procedures needed to complete this kit does not take into consideration current testing tools like digital oscilloscopes and function generators.

I then assembled the FM section by installing all components and ignoring assembly instructions.

The instruction manual gives clear instructions, however, the testing of the radio requires an oscilloscope, which I dont have

Just followed the instructions for assembly and ignored all the tests.

They include excellent instructions, including testing steps along the build process to ensure things are going as planned.
