Emotiva Audio XPS-1 Phono Preamp
Do you have a large collection of vintage records? Or are you tempted by the ongoing vinyl revival? If so, the XPS-1 high-performance phono preamp is exactly what you need to breathe new life into your analog media. With high precision and low noise,...
The heart of my system is the wonderful Emotiva stereo DAC-preamp, the
Moreover, I own a great Emotiva preamp connected to a Crown power amp and then out to Bose speakers in my living room and it works great
Pulled my vintage Pioneer PL-560 out of storage and use this preamp to boost phono output to my receiver
Although I'm spoiled by many years ownership of an extremely nice vacuum tube-based phono preamp, I often hestitated turning it on due to the demand for continuous listening implied by the limited tube lifetime (not to mention the extra power consumption)
very surprised how well my records sound using this preamp
But my experience with this preamp has been great, and the sound quality is better than I expected for the price
The hum is gone, the volume is full throated, and the sound quality is superb
However, after using it now for a couple of months, and after having replace my MM needle for a MC needle of much greater quality, I do notice its limitations
Bottom line about the size of a large chocolate candy bar and roughly about the same weight, nice build quality, gold connectors...
Sound quality of the XPS 1 was clean, bright, and strong.
This is a decent piece of hardware and for the price, it's a fair value
BUT - as far as I can tell from a features perspective it is an incredible value
Great value at this price range...very satisfied with sound!
Their gear is constantly rated best value regardless of the category (amps, processors, accessories, etc.).To address some concerns about buzz and hum with this unit, admittedly it is a little susceptible

As for my other cartridges, this pairs nicely with the M97, it doesn't distort with high-output cartridges either like the Shure M44-7; but the most dramatically improved is the Grado
Connected to my SL1200GLD, Grado Prestige body, and Marantz receiver; I can crank this close to maximum volume, and the most you'll hear is barely audible white noise through my speakers
During that time I've suffered from the well known Grado Hum due to the lack of shielding on the cartridge
For the last 13 years I've owned a Grado Prestige Green cartridge for listening purposes

(The DC-1 features an all-analog path from the analog input to the outputs.)Initial listening, after just a one-hour warm-up (not yet a break-in), has been very impressive
It does it in a stable fashion but is not in itself a very stable listening experience
A Grado Black1 with this Emotiva XPS-1 is a viable upgrade path for us old SL-1200 DJs looking to re-purpose their old DJ turntables for a nice listening setup.

(The later is another important factor in minimizing the effects of stray 60 Hz magnetic fields from the power supply in any amps that might be nearby.)So, in summary: worked out of the box, 60 Hz hum is gone, music is beautiful, and customer is happy
I now hear crystal clear audio and a happy customer. :)this company fails to disappoint.

As good or better than phono preamps many times its price.
Really impressive, had tried 2 other preamps and the sound wasn't even close, the Pro-Ject manual stated what resistance in Ohms to use and you just flip the setting on the

The Pro-ject is great for a clean, warm, quieter phono pre-amp... a great choice if you lean toward jazz, classical, and other acoustic/classic records.
Little Phono preamp,GIANT KILLER,Simple,if you have MM or MC ,this is best preamp for dollar. value,...........
As good or better than phono preamps many times its price.
I was using the built-in phono preamp that comes with my HK 990 integrates amp, but that arrangement suffered from weak amplification with the mc Denon cartridge, and there was a distinct 60 Hz hum when turned up for full audio enjoyment
Very well built, looks good, lots of versatility, a really really bright blue light,( really bright, I put a piece of tape on mine just to tone it down a bit!
Very well built and have a comprehensive set of switches for adjustments and selection of cart
It looks good and is well built like most of emotiva audio components
Bottom line about the size of a large chocolate candy bar and roughly about the same weight, nice build quality, gold connectors...
I do wish there was an on/off switch, though, or at least a way to turn off the obnoxiously bright blue LED.Four stars, because it's not going to blow your mind sound-wise...but worth a buy if you're like me and ok with having a reliable product, even if it's not exactly audiophile quality.
I like Emotiva products generally, and own their XDA DAC which is very good
I'm not an audiophile snob, but this product is clearly superior and clearly worth the price.
amazing pre amp emotiva as always making great products recommend
This has to be the least stressful product recommendation I can suggest to somebody getting into vinyl since this little gem just works beautifully

With high precision and low noise, the XPS-1 is perfect for connecting a turntable to any line stage, preamp, or other audio equipment with line-level RCA inputs
Advanced Design for Exceptional Performance The XPS-1 takes its cues from Emotiva's precision line-level equipment, with high-quality components throughout the signal path for accurate RIAA equalization, extremely low noise for even low-output cartridges, and vanishingly low distortion
Special attention was paid to the low-noise power supplies; both the external highly regulated AC supply and the individual switching supplies within the XPS-1
Flexibility for a Broad Range of Cartridges The circuitry in the XSP-1 is designed to provide the optimum gain and noise performance for both Moving Magnet (MM) and Moving Coil (MC) cartridges
You can configure the load impedance on the Moving Coil input to achieve the best sound for your particular cartridge
Small and Affordable-Ideal for Multiple Turntables Best of all, the XPS-1's performance doesn't come at a high price, and its small size makes it the ideal companion for your turntable, without sacrificing rack space
Have multiple turntables? Get an XPS-1 for each, and prepare yourself for sweeping vistas of beautiful analog sound-with 21st Century performance!
