It is a _hybrid_ of a solid-state digital modeling preamp with a tube power amp.
I prefer the vintage Fender Twin modeling setting while letting my pedals do the rest of the tone shaping
But this little baby is the perfect practice and recording amp for the studio with its tube circuit and impressive modeling capabilities on channel 2
Light weight, front mounted knobs, amp modeling (great modeling through the first 8 or 9, the high gain, not so much), great built in digital effects that are actually usable
I have owned many solid state and modeling amplifiers, including a few of the Vox Valvetronix series.
I honestly love this thing and have no regrets on this purchase
There are lots of discussions about any given amp on the web, but I guess best thing you can do is look for sound samples, guys playing through them while you pay close attention to the tone

I didn't keep mine because I already have a fender champion 100 solid state and between the two I could not hear much of a sound difference other than this one sounded like a smaller amp, and that's because it is
I have owned many solid state and modeling amplifiers, including a few of the Vox Valvetronix series.
Purchased the SCX2 after quickly determining that the two "budget" solid state Fender amps I'd tried were not to my taste sonically and limited in terms of features, though undeniably both represented a very good value at their respective price points
I particularly like the Princeton emulation, the clean channel, the Marshall emulation, and the Fender solid state emulation.
If you've owned other solid-state amps, you know what I mean
FX are also a nice feature (chorus, reverb, tremolo, and delay)
and I still cherish my Princeton reverb with a couple of pedals.
The effects section has a good reverb, with a big thumbs up for the spring reverb, and also chorus (very pleasant), vibratone and delay
Those are among the options for "Channel 2”; “Channel 1” is supposedly a generic “Blackface” clean tone, presumably averaging the Super Reverb and the Deluxe Reverb of that era, a somewhat boxy, midrange-heavy sound which goes a long way to explaining the heavy bass and treble emphasis built into the tone stack of the Princeton

The onboard digital effects are mostly good, though, like the modeling voices, they need considerable tweaking on the part of the player, using the FUSE software
For a modestly increased budget outlay, the SCX2 combo afforded me the benefits of superior tonal warmth and pick response by way of the tube power output section (I'm playing a Standard Tele), an almost limitless range of tones that can be produced via the combination of capable onboard effects (15, incl. combinations), a responsive EQ section, 16 amp models (some very convincing and most all quite useable) and the added customization capabilities (including virtual stomp boxes, post signal processers and even "deep" edits such as virtual SAG and bias) that are enabled by downloading the FUSE software and hooking up the amp to my computer
Very versatile, many voices, great effects, great size, not too heavy for an old timer like me
So if you're trying to practice down in the living room, you're forced to drag your effects with you.
It is very tube like and the effects are quite good (for built effects), particularly the Fender spring reverb
It will mostly be used as a in home amp, but I could see it being used in small venue where a loud sound is not needed
The straight tube has the great classic Fender sound that I expected, and the digital effects are very good as well
I own a Ibanez wt-80 jazz amp S-State amp great sound but to heavy to lug around
It is possible to use the Super Champ’s usb port as a recording link, though without benefit of the tube power amp and the speaker, the sound straight out of the digital preamp, even with cabinet emulation, is pretty disappointing and sounds little like the sound through the speaker.
Normally a delay pedal sounded good with my other SS amp, but since the super champ doesn't have an fx loop, the delay pedal sounds very unnatural
