Reviews around software (5.00 of 5)

  • Sure, the enhancements make the software even easier to use and more powerful, but the upgrade will cost you and if you are already up and running and don't need the new features, it's probably okay to wait
  • Perhaps the only downside, if you are not a business, is that there are other software solutions available that might be more appropriate for your use case
  • All in all this is great software though and is highly recommended.
  • This is a fairly easy software to use, building customized databases suited to ones business needs especially small - medium sized companies
  • This software is great, but the customer support is horrific

Reviews around upgrade (5.00 of 5)

  • In the end, FMP13 is an excellent upgrade in all respects
  • This is really a nice upgrade, further streamlining many of the day-to-day tasks one is likely to get into
  • The install went very well but the upgrade of the database wasn't as smooth as I had hoped
  • The upgrade should make adapting databases to the iPhone and iPad much easier.
  • Clearly, the present upgrade includes the enhanced Quick Charts features and there were definitely template and theme upgrades in 12 as well, so it would be hard for me to say if this upgrade is necessary for those who are already running 12.

Reviews around tool (5.00 of 5)

  • All in all, quite an impressive database tool that has an advanced set ofintegrated capabilities.
  • Advanced includes additional tools for development and customization (most of which, by the way, are included in the standard edition of Microsoft Access as far back as 2000).
  • But look elsewhere if you are a casual user, or if you want an inexpensive tool for creating an online database.

Reviews around client (5.00 of 5)

  • The new paid server options come through purchasing user concurrency packs that determine how many free clients can be connected to the server at one time
  • So imagine how powerful it would be to be able to develop and deploy multi-user solutions, without caring whether the clients or even the server was Windows or Mac?It gets better: The mobile client, FileMaker Go, is free
  • Licensing FileMaker now boils down to the following rule: Paid client (FileMaker Pro) means free server and free client (desktop browser or FileMaker Go on iPad/iPhone) means paid server

Reviews around thing (5.00 of 5)

  • The one thing some advanced developers might miss is the ability to make Word, Excel, Visio, and Access all work together through Visual Basic for Applications.
  • One thing I really like is that with this it's not at all awkward to include lots of student information fields that help me when I am assessing each student and preparing teaching materials, along with more basic grade information.
  • One of the best things about FileMaker is that it is cross-platform (Windows and Mac - unlike Microsoft Access), and is multi-user, including mobile devices with the free FileMaker Go app for IOS.

Reviews around program (4.60 of 5)

  • In the end, I've ended up writing my own programs to manipulate the data in the ways I needed
  • I am only beginning to understand the potential of this amazing program
  • I really love this program and look forward to unlocking all of the possibilities.
  • But again, the program does what it's supposed to and works flawlessly
  • I know the program is good and works very well with both macs & pcs because we use it at work

Reviews around way (4.53 of 5)

  • You can choose to override this by preventing the inclusion of FMP13 features in dB's that will be used with 12, but I'm still not certain this is the safest way to go (I'll have to test more)
  • But as with many things Microsoft, you'd need to take a course or purchase a wheelbarrow full of books, and that just rubs me the wrong way (especially since I've spent decades as a programmer).
  • Plus, generally, you have to just input data and information on the standard spreadsheets, that handle some kinds of information quite well, but don't provide a good way of displaying things like images attached to data
  • What I don't like about the FMP13 approach is that if I have a dozen reports that each has several calculations... I'll then have several dozen additional calculated fields in my FMP13 table, not organized in any meaningful way to tell me which Layouts (reports) they are used in.
  • BEFORE:For those who are not in the know, relational databases are an incredibly efficient way to handle large amounts of data

Reviews around solution (4.33 of 5)

  • So, professional developers of complex customized solutions that import/export data into and from other systems may find that FM is not quite robust enough.
  • FileMaker Pro 13 continues to be an outstanding database solution, but it might be a bit of a challenge if you are not used to doing this kind of thing
  • FM comes with enough simple starter solutions to get you going, or you can start with a custom database and tables.
  • The starter solutions have also been improved in this version
  • For now, I'd just say if you own a pizza parlor and want to track your customers, there are probably easier solutions, and if you're a database programmer you're probably going to want to stick to Access.

Reviews around interface (4.33 of 5)

  • You won't receive much documentation, and the interface isn't as easy to use as I would like, but the good news is that the Internet has a lot of great advice about FileMaker
  • Many of the new features of FileMaker 13 allow developers to create more interactive applications and richer user interface experiences more similar to what people are used to on iOS
  • Styles are also new in FileMaker 13 so that you can more easily apply consistent interface elements throughout a solution by changing the style in one place
  • Although it sports a very cheery, welcoming interface it is really a very sophisticated piece of software
  • FM is an advanced database system with a great interface that makes it accessible to all users.

Reviews around product (4.16 of 5)

  • I love Apple products and the only use I have now for Windows is to run Access
  • Did not want to ding the product itself, but this is the one time that Amazon failed on it's delivery
  • This should be a great product, but I rate it as just 3-stars, which
  • If you have a database need, you are unlikely to exceed this product's capabilities
  • While I love the product itself, something happened to my order in transit and I never actually received the product and ended up purchasing it elsewhere.

Reviews around access (4.16 of 5)

  • That said, I found Microsoft Access to be far more confusing for the newbee and much preferred FileMaker.
  • Excel spreadsheets have never looked so good as when they were imported into this program
  • , non database developer I can say Access is easier to use for my purposes.
  • I use it for my collections, as well as for my business
  • I have used Access and Filemaker for years and find that Filmmaker is far easier to use, and in the hands of a skilled developer, just as powerful as Access is for complicated database needs

Reviews around option (4.03 of 5)

  • This makes FileMaker a much more attractive option in large corporations where they do not want to spend the extra time and expense necessary to install and test a new specific software package on many workstations
  • Filemaker is an excellent option for creating a database with an interface, but it can be daunting
  • In this case, there are many less pricey options that should more than meet your needs.
  • For you, this might be the perfect option (it is for me, as I will never need more than 2 or 3 people working with my data).
  • If you need something basic, this likely isn't your best option but if you're looking for something with a bit more horsepower, you won't be disappointed.
