I prefer to use Firestik fiberglass antennas for permanent mount installations, but for magnetic mounts base loaded stainless steel antennas create much less wind resistance and are more flexible, eliminating the "toppling over" issues that people complain about.

I would think a longer antenna would work as well as the magnet is way stout
