Cant say enough about how much we love Fluenz, my 14 year old is learning German and doing amazing (I know because my wife is fluent, but leaving all the teaching up to Fluenz).

This is the most effective self-learning tool that I have used -- and, over the years, I have tried different forms of Rosetta Stone, Berlitz, Tansparent Language, Living Language etc
Rosetta Stone is more widely known but Fluenz is interactive and a great learning tool
Fluenz is a great tool to jumpstart your progress but the rest is on you.

It uses a pedagogic strategy of learning by repetition, that is, of getting the lingüistic patterns without explicit teaching, whic, I think, is the best method.
I tried both of the demos, and I love the method better with Fluenz
The Fluenz method is fabulous for learning as you learn around a theme and variations on the them.

Plus, with Rosetta Stone, I was able to understand that "trinken" means "to drink", but with Fluenz, I can say, "Ich möchten trinken."For someone who wants to be immersed in the culture and language and living in the USA, Fluenz seems to be a better choice
Compared to the other choices/programs out there I think this was the best option and I am confident I made the right choice for me.

They are both excellent products, but I have found that Fluenz is definitely the more usable of the two
I was able to obtain Pimsleur German I, II, and III from my local library so that component was free and definitely the best product for learning how to speak and understand speech.
As "software" this product is pretty bad
But I put 5 stars to support them to make cheaper products that everyone interested in german will buy
I first purchased the first two levels of this program and am now kicking myself that I didn't spring for all five levels at once, as the product is expensive
If I can get to the level of fluency that I am at now, I know that anyone can with a little hard work.
But with a little hard work comes great rewards.
And I also suspect that it gives you a sufficient working knowledge of German to get by very well as a tourist in German-speaking countries.
I love working on the lessons, and my German is improving by leaps and bounds.
