I bought this in 2008, thinking that the clear strap would probably break first
I bought an inexpensive ($5) plastic shell housing for the iPad, cut a couple of holes in the back, and run the clear plastic velcro strap through the back of the iPad shell.
I customized it with my approach plates and taxi diagrams, and the clear strap that goes across the pad of paper (not included) seems to do it's job.
The narrow clear strap is nice for holding a tablet in place (only blocking a small part of the touchscreen but none of the view).
It holds the iPad securely (even in inverted flight!).Only negative is that the back of the clipboard has the prickly kind of velcro to secure the straps when it is not in use... so you would not want to wear this with shorts on.
These have MUCH wider leg bands that hold the boards in place while not cutting into your leg like the other flimsy knee-boards.
This is an awesome knee board, way better than the typical clipboard and strap

These kneeboards are so useful that you will want one for each leg!
