Reviews around portrait (5.00 of 5)

  • It lets me get a nice portrait shot without disturbing the subject.
  • Compared to the 56mm f/1.2, I'd say this is a better portrait lens, and it's a bit better all around (YMMV and sometimes 56mm fits the bill better than 90
  • Sharp as a tack corner to corner and a perfect portrait and isolation lens
  • Not only a great portrait lens but worked really well for street shooting.
  • Bokeh can be very subjective to opinion, but I feel that the bokeh produced is as close to perfect as you can get.

Reviews around image (5.00 of 5)

  • A lovely lens that results in pretty sharp images with lovely bokeh, but the noisy magnets and shifting when the camera is off (but the lens is still on the body) and the rather slow focusing made me wish I wasn't so hasty in clicking "Buy"
  • Because of the excellent image quality at f2, I imagine I'll use this mostly to separate interesting and beautiful subjects from the background.
  • Superb image quality, with amazing sharpness across the field of
  • Additionally, with this lens' superb image quality and the Xt1's beautiful jpegs, especially B+W jpegs, my suspicion is that I'm about to embark into some personally-unexplored areas of photography, which is very exciting
  • Amazing image quality and colors right out of the camera

Reviews around color (5.00 of 5)

  • Amazing image quality and colors right out of the camera
  • Beautiful, beautiful color, even without in-camera selection of Fuji's "Velvia" color mode
  • (By the way, the Fuji XF 55-200mm lens, which gets very good reviews, but not usually as high as some of Fuji's primes, has some of the best color and image quality I've seen
  • metal and glass construction++ Beautiful color rendition due to the lens' component construction and the coatings
  • excellent color rendering and sharpness, this prime reminds me of the 56mm but gives you the ability to give your subject some space instead of having the lens up close to their faces

Reviews around bokeh (5.00 of 5)

  • An absolutely stunning lens...glued to my camera...it is nothing short of awesome ...beautiful bokeh, color rendering, sharp as a tack, quality
  • A lovely lens that results in pretty sharp images with lovely bokeh, but the noisy magnets and shifting when the camera is off (but the lens is still on the body) and the rather slow focusing made me wish I wasn't so hasty in clicking "Buy"
  • Has a terrific depth seperation effect and a very nice bokeh, it has rapidly become a favorite on my xpro2
  • It's snappy, sharp, weather sealed, and has beautiful bokeh.

Reviews around length (5.00 of 5)

  • I like this focal length for portraits, although it puts quite a bit of distance between me and the subject.
  • Cropping helps with some things, but good ole fashioned focal lengths help with conveying depth, or in this case slightly compressing it.
  • The basis for this is the overall sharpness wide open (though stop down the 56mm to f/2 and it's comparable), more flattering focal length, and better close focusing.

Reviews around lense (5.00 of 5)

  • This lense is tack sharp and produces beautiful photos.
  • So, on any Fuji camera, you will see "Fujifilm," a hangover from the film camera days, but on the lenses, you will see, if you look carefully, not Fujifilm, but FujiNON, a reference to the company's lens division.]I can only give this lens my highest recommendation, even understanding it exists within a field of over-performing Fuji lenses (the XF 23mm F/1.4, the XF 56mm, the XF 16mm, the XF 14mm, for example)
  • Bottom line, Fujinon lenses are pricey but perform exceedingly well and now I know they are really really tough lenses
  • (But while I am on it, not only is it frustrating that you don't get a high-quality Fuji case to match such beautiful lenses, but Fuji is missing out on a great advertising opportunity, because everytime someone pulls out a high-quality lens bad marked "FUJINON" on it in bold, yellow letters, like those used on some of their binocular straps, it is worth more than any paid

Reviews around mm (5.00 of 5)

  • My favorite trio:14mm 2.835
  • has on the already stellar 56mm f/1.2
  • 90mm generally is better than 56mm for portraits (1.5x focal length crops really don't matter here, but even if you think they do, 135mm is better than 85mm).Onto this particular lens.

Reviews around glass (5.00 of 5)

  • use++ A quite wide F/2 means that it can be used in low lighting situations, as well as for portraiture++ Silky smooth manual focus and aperture rings, should you choose to use
  • Bokeh can be very subjective to opinion, but I feel that the bokeh produced is as close to perfect as you can get.
  • It's not quite up to the best Zeiss glass (sadly neither does the Zeiss glass available for the X system), but it's quite remarkable, and better than my Nikon primes
  • I've been spoiled with good glass, having used some highly regarded lenses

Reviews around autofocus (4.21 of 5)

  • use++ A quite wide F/2 means that it can be used in low lighting situations, as well as for portraiture++ Silky smooth manual focus and aperture rings, should you choose to use
  • Bokeh can be very subjective to opinion, but I feel that the bokeh produced is as close to perfect as you can get.
  • Autofocus isn't quite as fast as my other fuji lenses (35 f1.4 & 18 f2), but it works well enough for portraiture which is what the lens is for anyways
  • I am just accustomed to really fast autofocus with Fuji these days
  • Not perfect wide open for candids because of the somewhat slow autofocus but again, not a big deal

Reviews around focus (3.22 of 5)

  • I was a little concerned, but with the digital eye viewfinder the focus is actually quite fast
  • A lovely lens that results in pretty sharp images with lovely bokeh, but the noisy magnets and shifting when the camera is off (but the lens is still on the body) and the rather slow focusing made me wish I wasn't so hasty in clicking "Buy"
  • The basis for this is the overall sharpness wide open (though stop down the 56mm to f/2 and it's comparable), more flattering focal length, and better close focusing.
  • The focus was still a touch slow when it comes to focusing between a near and far subject.
  • At a recent conference where I had to shoot using ambient, focus was so slow that I could not capture speakers moving even at a walking pace.
