not reliable for long term use, i bought this about a year ago and it worked fine every time i used it till it suddenly died on me today and was totally unrecognizable by the laptop (could not format or erase or repair it using the dick utility app on mac) so i am searching for a better quality brand now

The cable fits securely into the drive, itself, as well as into the USB port on my new MacBook Pro.

I bought two of these as they look great and feel quite robust, but from my experience aren't that good if you're using them on a daily basis with repeated plug and unplugs - they worked great at first, but the SATA card (that's the component that links the hard drive to the power/data transfer port that your USB lead plugs into) is very poor quality and failed after just over a year

only thing to be aware of is that it's usb rather than firewire, and therefore slower.
