Reviews around battery life (5.00 of 5)

  • 60.-good battery life-accuracy is very good, consistently within a few feet-my 14 year old Brittany (who is mostly deaf) can hear the beep on the collar-Collar and remote are totally waterproof
  • The battery life is great, the gps tracking dead on, and now I can find my truck everytime too
  • Battery life is great; easily make it through an entire day
  • Here is another plus on this unit...day or night hunting the battery life has been very good
  • The battery life on the receiver and collars is excellent for our use (about a day maximum).

Reviews around peace (5.00 of 5)

  • I like the peace and quiet of hunting without constant the beeping of a beeper collar, but there is some frustration with this collar too.
  • This is an expensive collar but the peace of mind it affords is truly amazing.
  • I like the peace of mind I get from the Alpha knowing where the dog is and I can actually leave the dog hunt better rather than calling her

Reviews around idea (5.00 of 5)

  • Good idea, not executed very well
  • I appreciate the idea, but that's gonna be the source of a lot of frustrated hunters when that little bugger goes missing when you're in the middle of nowhere
  • The better idea is to just get a GPS collar and e-collar separately if you may ever decide to enter these types of competitions (this may also be a better idea so that you're not out an entire system if one happens to malfunction). But this review is on the product as it is sold, and for that I've liked it quite a bit.

Reviews around feature (5.00 of 5)

  • (Garmin's BaseCamp software for downloading birdseye is pretty pathetic, but once it's on the gps it is great)Pretty much any feature you could want in a
  • No ½ mile (at best) range limit (like my old-fashioned G3).A great full featured GPS besides being an all-in-one training/tracking collarThe tone on the dog collar; in just a couple sessions I trained my dog to come to it

Reviews around thing (5.00 of 5)

  • That said, it works as advertised and is probably the best thing going in this space (for now).
  • Easy to control the settings on the stimulation buttons.cons:Hmmm... only thing I can think of is that it has to eventually be recharged.

Reviews around map (5.00 of 5)

  • The handheld unit is pretty intuitive to use, and the map is for the most part very accurate and precise
  • ( I notice my dog travels 6-8 miles while I go 2).Birdseye satellite images (you have to buy subscription) overlaid on free detailed topo maps (check online for free 1:24000 maps) are awesome
  • Future improvements we'd like to see include uncluttering the screen; after an hour of hunting with 20 hounds, the map is covered with lines.
  • As mentioned in other reviews, the map is accurate and the hounds are tracked easily on the map.

Reviews around device (5.00 of 5)

  • These devices were very good but age and wear has caused me to retire them in favor of the Alpha 100
  • I just got into running my dog in competitions, and didn't realize that I would not be able to use this collar at all (even just for the GPS ability) during those trials and tests, as it is not an approved device (and likely never will be).
  • This device is not necessarily worth 799.99 due to some issues I experienced with it, but if you are insisting on purchasing it at least dont pay more than the over-priced 799.99 from this guy.
  • This could be a great device but Garmin makes it complicated as they seem to do

  • Money well spent.

  • Everything has worked as advertised so far with no problems

Reviews around system (3.65 of 5)

  • The system is expensive, but seems more reasonable in the long run when you consider that there is no monthly service required for this to work
  • We hunt on horseback in very rough country and the Alpha 100 system is so easy to use that I can follow the hounds at a trot while using the Garmin to track them.
  • I found the system to be very intuitive, easy to set up and use.
  • The Garmin Alpha GPS Track and Train System gives me confidence that I know where my dog is and I can control her.
  • The system works for me, except it freezes a few times each day when I press the buttons.

Reviews around hunt (3.61 of 5)

  • Thanks for reading, Happy hunting, GOD Bless!!!
  • But can't ask for anything more, with the Alpha 100 its one of the best pig hunting gear I use in Hawaii's very mountainous terrain.

  • We get a lot of use out of this collar; not just when the dogs are pheasant hunting but around the yard at home as well

Reviews around dog (2.79 of 5)

  • This is a little on the pricey side but we all love our dogs so much it gives you peace of mind
  • my dog had panicked from the change in routine and lack of direction from me, and now I had lost her in the woods
  • Dog got spooked by some loud fireworks and ran off into the woods in the dark.
  • I never in a million years would have thought that I would lose my dog in the forest
  • It was a horrible, gut-wrenching feeling to know that I had lost my dog and barely knew where I was, much less where she could be

Reviews around direction (1.00 of 5)

  • This means that when it points to the dog, it is pointing the wrong direction
  • No more walking wrong directions before finally finding him
  • My friend has the Sport dog tek and you have to calibrate it, then it only does the direction and how far, not always accurate either
