If you don't, the battery is too weak to power on the GPS

well, for about an hour it got me around, then the battery died

It's has a great screen and great battery life

I will never ever buy a Garmin again, the first two just totally died on me over the course of a year (obviously beyond the return dates), now the one they send me clearly has a crapped out battery in it.

I'm mechanically inclined, but I see replacing the battery as extremely complex and runs the risk of never getting unit back together after removing battery
