Comes with a useless map, so had to download a free one from USA topo maps, which worked well.

Oh, be sure to download the free Topo maps onto the gps if you want it to be of any help at all....there are pay ones also if your into that

I love the way it works

Good with battery, reliable, locates satellites very quickly, I use it to locate moorings will navigating.

Also, it does not pickup satellites well and not user friendly.

but I've been off track several times as the alarm is hardly audible

If this is what you need, this is a decent GPS.For street use, I would recommend getting something with bluetooth, so you can store the unit and still get turn-by-turn instructions (not in this unit) as well as proximity alarms

Positive points would include the size, internal and external memory.

This all would have been helpful while hiking turtle head peak as the trail is not too clear at all

I downloaded some free trail maps of the area I was visiting and they were useful in helping to plot an off-road route back to the highway.

The sunset/sundown feature was helpful as well

IMHO Garmin would have done better to simplify the device rather than add bells and whistles.

Honestly, this is one of the most user unfriendly devices I have ever touched.

It's a shame as the hardwear/device seems nice, but the software and user interface are beyond horrible.

I still think this device has good potential and I enjoy having it to prevent getting lost while hiking

bought it as an emergeny GPS for hunting in the mountains, works like a dream and has upgrade-able maps

For 2018 and $150 this product should be easier to use and more accurate

As you're hiking along and looking at the GPS is not needed, it drops into your pocket, hoping the screen will shut-off to conserve power, but the thumb-stick will be activated continuously and keeping the screen on most of the time you are hiking, which will drain the battery within a few hours.

Combine this with a good mylar map and manual compass and you are golden

Attempts to use their software crashed windows 10 explorer and trying to modify the map layers or include any free maps was effectively an unstable nightmare

However, for a significant fee, you can purchase better maps from Garmin.

onX map is not great for topographical features, but the unit displays where you are, and where you have been.
