Garmin Nuvi 57LM GPS Navigator System with Spoken Turn-By-Turn Directions,5 inch display, Lifetime Map Updates, Direct Access, and Speed Limit Displays

    • Pros--much smaller than my old one, and the maps and directions are better.
    • Map Problem
    • I purchased it because it comes with free map updates for a reasonable price.
    • I thought this model had Canadian maps as well as US maps based on an answer I saw under the customer questions section.
    • The additional maps are extremely expensive up to usd$60, the updates are easy however will take you at least a couple hours
    • He prefers his handy thompson maps
    • And yes, the maps are inaccurate.
    • Works as well,if not better than my old Garmin and has unlimited maps.
    • Worst is its TERRIBLE map program: many missing roads; cross-streets shown to left but not to the right; some crossroads that show if you're travelling east but not west; missing roads into residential neighborhoods (not just the entrance road but ALL the roads in the subivision); an exit to Kingwood Rd. which has a little blue "H" sign for a hospital spoken as "Exit Hospital on the right
    • Works great with unlimited map updates
    • I got it for the free life time maps, but the garmin i bought in 2007 for $100 was much better
    • So much clearer than our old one, better maps and lots of extras!
    • I've had the old nuvi 255 and it worked great but did not come with free map
    • The second one had really poor mapping logic and we got rid of it after a couple trips.
    • Navigation instructions are clear and the map looks intuitive (I hate the map on my older Michelin which displays a divided road as two thin separate roads in parallel and there is a huge space between them )
    • Just started using this device and after using Google maps, these maps are very poor and the exact locations are often wrong
    • Not as reliable as Google maps
    • Fine machine for the money-a little nervous about the "lifetime" free maps update.
    • Spoken directions are much improved and free map upgrades.
    • this unit also is not nearly as accurate as Google maps at predicting traffic slowdowns.
    • Navigation instructions are clear and the map looks intuitive (I hate the map on my older Michelin which displays a divided road as two thin separate roads in parallel and there is a huge space between them )
    • I did this, and this time got a message that the map was corrupt.
    • The software is a bit clunky, and the maps are much more accurate for interstate and established roads/places, but overall this thing has worked great on multi-state roads trips, and did what I bought it for: kept me on the road, in the right direction

    • So how did Garmin miss what the rest of the world does?Buyer beware because the "lifetime free map updates" means "only for so long as Garmin considers the unit to have a useful life."
    • Google maps far excels at
    • Of course the mapping is faster when you’re driving, but it also has some nice features.
    • Great and updated maps
    • but when we lost service, we also lost the map.
    • my 3rd GPS has free map update.
    • Like that it updates maps
    • clear maps, excellent verbal directions, bright display.
    • Clear picture, good map
    • I dont really need the traffic notification, but having the map pulled up and encountering a problem, does afford an on-the-fly alternative route option to go around it.
    • comes with free map update but only has US map - ruining our trip to Vancouver BC - Return
    • A dependable map wench who doesn't cut out or take a snooze on you when you need her
    • After you register, every three months you will get notifications in your e-mails for "free" map uploads
    • I kept getting a message that the Map was not available and to reinstall the map.
    • Also free map updates is a bonus.
    • I had one from six years ago the screen was much more crisp this one doesn't seem to have the same quality but the maps are good and the voice derctions are good
    • their maps are UNABLE to distinguish between roads and ATV trails
    • smart phone's map is better than this
    • BTW, I still prefer the google map, I switch back when in the city.
    • Works as expected, quality detailed maps
    • Love the maps for life feature
    • Unable to update maps as promised.
    • Earlier today, the nuvi 58LMT said “maps were unavailable”.I spoke to Amazon earlier today about the issues and they refunded my purchase (mainly due to receiving a nuvi 58LMT instead of the nuvi 57LMT).I order a Garmin Drive 60 USA LMT GPS since the nuvi line is discontinued.
    • In case you are wondering, yes, I did update my maps before using this product
    • More features and free map updates than I was expecting.
    • I had no such problem, the battery works as it should and lasts a very long time (haven't tested it to see exactly how long, one of these days I will try just to see), although obviously if you're going on a long trip it's probably better to just keep it plugged in if you can
    • I dont really need the traffic notification, but having the map pulled up and encountering a problem, does afford an on-the-fly alternative route option to go around it.
    • Time will tell if its as great as I think after only using it once..
    • Further, the device does not update your current location on the map as fast as it should be, which gives a chance for missing a turn or an exit
    • My elderly aunt wanted this brand, and it is NOT user friendly, doesn't offer bypass routes, and simply didn't work as it said
    • The traffic info came i handy as it would let you know if there was an accident or roadwork ahead causing delays.
    • Worked as it should have
    • Great little G p
