I'm guessing the battery is worn out maybe, and that it's not providing enough of a current to the phone(s)??
When charged, it is does exactly what it promises to do: great speaker phone, plus decent music replay without much bass, e.g. during department or family meetings to give the music output extra decibel but compromise on bass
I have another speaker phone from a different company and when you plug it into the computer via USB to charge, it also works over the USB
I have to say that today it was confirmed the H/K are superior
