Reviews around intonation (5.00 of 5)

  • The Jo-Ral plays with better intonation throughout the range of the horn; the Harmon is much more sharp in the lower range
  • I rate the Jo-Ral higher for better intonation, and less resistance while preserving an authentic feel
  • If you want a brighter sound #along with less resistance, and good intonation#, go for the aluminum version of the Jo-Ral

Reviews around way (5.00 of 5)

  • I love the way the mute sounds but would have after the fact likely gone with the Aluminum for the price sound and weight.

Reviews around cork (5.00 of 5)

  • Also, if you say a throaty "haaa" into the bell just before inserting the Harmon, the resulting moisture improves cork-to-horn grip

Reviews around cleartone trumpet (5.00 of 5)

  • About 5 years ago, I started using a Humes & Berg Cleartone Trumpet Mute when a tune called for a Harmon

Reviews around harmon (3.61 of 5)

  • I bought the copper Harmon mute to replace an aluminum Harmon mute that was destroyed.
  • The Jo-Ral plays with better intonation throughout the range of the horn; the Harmon is much more sharp in the lower range
  • Both have a nice traditional harmon mute 'bite' and edge to the sound
  • I would categorize the Harmon is 'crisp', while the Jo-Ral is 'dark.'Both are made very well

Reviews around mute (3.44 of 5)

  • Both have a nice traditional harmon mute 'bite' and edge to the sound
  • While I would easily recommend this mute to any serious trumpet player, I will also caution about the weight differential.
  • This mute was rendered essentially useless by the manufacturer's use of very thin cork, and will not seat tightly in any of the 4
  • This mute is not cheap.
  • Harmon mutes are more flexible than the Cleartone, and no other mute duplicates its distinctive sound.
