Before purchasing I had read reviews about this happening, but figured people weren't following the filling instructions and had overfilled the container, forcing the plastic to crack when the water froze/expanded

I'm not certain, but my guess is they are using cheap plastic to make these

This is made of cheap quality plastic.

I am surprised that the outside plastic shell/housing is expected to endure temperature changes, but so far so good -- used correctly the plastic shouldn't feel much "shock".

However mine got bumped off the counter and the top shattered because the plastic was cold

I was very familiar with not overfilling the HyperChiller because the freezing could expand and damage the plastic, but now I fill it well below the line to make sure this doesn't happen again

Then when it refreezes and expands, it exceeds the space available and cracks the plastic.

For something that is designed to be frozen I would think it should be better made or and least be made with slightly more sturdy plastic.

Only downfall is sometimes water will leak (I assume from being frozen and thawed frequently), so could use better sealant in those areas
