I was scared to dive into this purchase because of the reviews talking of the high temps and the need for a better cooling solution (if overclocking, which I wanted to try again)
If you are purchasing this you will definitely need to go with a water cooling solution of some sort, I used an
Unless you have a really good AIO cooler or a custom-built cooling solution, you'll likely run into problems
This processor has been a great solution for me, but it took a few extra upgrades to get where I was comfortable with the performance/power draw/temps.

For Photoshop, an application that prefers high clock frequencies vs. more cores, I love that this CPU has the same 4.5GHz Turbo Boost frequency as the Intel
far the only issue I have had was the switch from the Intel Windows application managing Turbo Boost 3.0 to native Turbo Boost on the 7900x.

I did a quick google search to find out that I got sent a cheap $300 processor
Amazing processor - finally an upgrade worth doing from my
Its kinda a strange processor for the x299 platform
Either mines was faulty or this is just a bad processor i couldnt manage to keep the temps under 90° degrees Fahrenheit even when idle my whole computer would lag horribly as the processor was constantly throttling itself the worst part of it is amazon lost it in the process of me returning
I wont bore you with technical diagrams and readouts of why this processor is amazing
But, the additional cores and more memory capacity of the X299 platform will be helpful for running more VMs which is why I bought it.
I use Keyshot 6 rendering - which is CPU intensive - and, the 7900x handles the ability to render and record with no glitches; I clean up with Adobe Elements which is running 10x's better*Core Temps under normal conditions (with a Corsair H110i cooler)
With a 5 Ghz overclock, this CPU would beat the Threadripper 1950X in all-core performance in addition to having WAY better single-core performance
I decided on this model chip bc the Turbo 3.0 frequency is the same as the 7820x, the 10 core was appealing in itself but also the 44 PCI express lanes
I am happy I made the move, and I let's face it, 16 cores is a better sounding number than 18.. heh!
$363.00 paperweightliterally the worst Intel chip I've had in the past 20 years (returned)
Would recommend this chip, if you can afford it that is and you are partial to Intel.
My chip can hit 5ghz easy and if I had a delid along with my big water setup I could get 5.2.
So instead, we have 20c hotter temps than the chip should have and you have people delidding their chips and voiding their warranty and risking their $1k chip just to keep this thing from overheating
Powerful gaming chip and one I can use from streaming and video editing as well
Intel is way overpriced but this 7800x does perform very well if money isn’t a huge factor for you.

Highly recommend at that price, if you want to game and need those extra cores, intel is still the way to go, However if your looking for a work station with light gaming at 60hz go with the ryzen.
I trust Intel and expect this CPU will, when I get one of them there round-to-its, power my server project just fine.
The application would just crash saying the system was not supported and confused me for a bit.
Works smoothly, with a water pump cooling system works at 25-27 degree Celsius
This chip is currently running fine on a MSI x299 Tomahawk arctic, an affordable board with a modest VRM and power regulation system
Heat will kill a high-end system faster than anything except cat fur.
Just make sure you get a proper cooling system, and test that it can be run under full performance to ensure it functions properly and can run all 32 threads.
