The actual contact area, much like tires contacting a road surface, is very small, and it doesn't take much to get in the way and prevent a good electrical connection.

On a whim, I tried cleaning the contacts that plug into the watch with a Q-tip and some isopropyl alcohol, and the cables started working again

The actual contact area, much like tires contacting a road surface, is very small, and it doesn't take much to get in the way and prevent a good electrical connection.

Not the same quality as OEM but work great as spares and as backups when you misplace the OEM cord.
