Had to clean the entire machine so having the smaller inserts for spices, which I thought was a great idea, did not work out at all since none of the spices were actually in it after grinding
The idea is great: a motor base on which you can place a tall stainless steel cup with a metal blade to grind larger things like coffee beans or shorter stainless steel cups with metal blades that are designed to spin closer to the bottom to better grind smaller items like whole spices.
I loved the idea of a dual purpose grinder (coffee & spices) but I have been very disappointed by the inability of the coffee grinder to grind ALL the beans.
Great idea, poor execution!!Returning and will purchase a different brand.
My wife stole this from me as soon as she saw it in the mail
And at such a reasonable price point (maybe $19).So, I strolled across this item, double the price at the time of purchase
’s price is not cheap but functional quality is probably
and cusunart does not sell extra cups at a reasonable price or i would gladly have purchased some and which caused me to look for a replacement now.
I picked the most reasonably priced option (this item, the KitchenAid BCG211OB) and one which seemed to meet my needs (at double the price point of the Mr Coffee that I broke and
I always shop Amazon first for the BEST products and the lowest prices
The grinder itself has two different size grinding containers
Small and large interchangeable sizes are convenient for grinding various items.
Perfect size for small quantities and easy to clean up.
The coffee one is the perfect size for grinding whole beans for a full pot of coffee and the fact that I can remove the bowl to dump the grounds into the filter is almost the best part
Smaller size is great for spices when you need to grind small portions.
I also like that the bowls can be taken off the machine and cleaned, something you can't do with most other grinders
The coffee one is the perfect size for grinding whole beans for a full pot of coffee and the fact that I can remove the bowl to dump the grounds into the filter is almost the best part
The set also comes with plastic lids to top the 1/2 height bowls so you don't get power all over the place when grinding, and also a perforated shaker top (like that of a salt shaker)
so I could change the bowl to grind spices.
This grinder has a couple stainless steel grinding bowls that will never break down.
But on the lids there is no seal or gasket so the product makes a mess
Excellent product - wish it had an extra cap for the second cup, as I use one for spices and the other for coffee
Overall, I would buy this product again and would recommend to a friend.
If KitchenAid just supplied 2 tall stainless steel grinder cups, one with the coffee blade and one with the spice blade, this would be a great product that grinds coffee and spices well as promised and they could drop the short grinder cups and lids entirely.
This product easily ground salt and pepper along with other spices.
Lid is awful, while grinding everything get accumulated in between cup and lid and don’t be surprised if it is a filthy mess when you open the lid! This
Couple quick points on this grinder:- round canister spins coffee insteadnof grinding- removable canister is nice- top lip of canister is very sharp be careful thatbit does not cut you- love that the lid does not get gounds on in after grinding, makes cleaning easier- fine grounds stick to the bottom while some bean in the top of the canister never get ground- seems that no matter how long you grin you still get inconsistent grind
Ground coffee leaks through the top of the grinder cup and top cover if ground more then a few seconds
It grinds coffee but whatever is at the bottom becomes a super fine grind and is more difficult to pour out
though is it just doesn't make a fine consistent grind.
the coffee cup works fine, there is no lid for it and static from the blades
Also there is always ground powder escaping onto the main part of the grinder from the container, and of course I always put the lid on the small containers when grinding
don't forget to use the individual lids while grinding.
Besides the jars were very small only good for very small batches' and then as well the spices would pop the lids while grinding and make a mess
The only improvement I would recommend is a lid for the coffee grinding vessel similar to those on the smaller spice grinding cups.
Overall, of the grinders under $50, I think this Kitchenaid is the best unit and overall I am happy with the purchase.
The good: - grinds well when new - coffee grinding cup is large enough to grind enough for a 14 cup coffee maker - nice to have separate cups for grinding coffee and spicesThe poor: - very noisy - a little difficult to get the grinding cups to nest on the gears, but the unit won't start grinding until they are properly nested, so I didn't think this was a big problem
I originally bought this unit to grind flax seeds for my protien shakes
It's only okay grinding coffee, as you can't shake the unit to even distribute while it's running - a huge miss in design.

Not sure why this is an Amazon Choice!---We moved to the States recently, and had all the intentions of buying all kitchen appliances from KitchenAid, despite their high prices, because we had heard and read good things about them
We love this thing!!!
This can grind things so fine that when you open it, there is a cloud of dust that comes out
When I do simple things like grind cumin seeds or peppercorns
Went to grind peppercorns and wouldn’t work.
I've had more black peppercorns push off the plastic top and then flood the balance of the top of the grinder
I used this grinder to grind my pink peppercorns, but the peppercorns kept getting into the interior chambers of the grinder thereby making me have to stop, empty all the peppercorns into a bowl, then place them back into the grinder again and again.
I tried to grind peppercorns what a mess it made with pepper spilling over on the inside including down around the edge where you lift the plastic up
so is the spice grinding as we use lots of spices in our cooking
My primary reason for choosing this grinder over others was that I could grind coffee and a variety of spices with one machine; I may be better off continuing to use separate grinders and trying to wipe out the chamber between spices.
It grinds very well!Three reasons for not five stars:1) it is noisy2
There are lids that are used to stop spices poofing up inside the grinder as well as for storage.
Hahaha!).HOWEVER, this feature is great for spice grinding options, which the KitchenAid BCG211OB comes with two additional 'containers' - each with blades - to grind contents with tops for each
It grinds NOTHING but spews the contents of teh cup everywhere clogging the mechanism
Would not trust the lids for sprinkling at all since it would probably fail and dump your contents
The cup is not tall enough for the lid, therefore, when it grinds the contents fly out of the cup
I would only suggest during a grind stopping and shaking the contents you are grinding and redistributing to get a smoother grind without missing everything getting ground
