my friend told me that the gears on this machine are plastic so when you change the coarseness, do it while the machine is running so that you do not jam the gear on startup

But after two monthsI wanted to change the fineness of the grind and moved the dial accordingly, and after that it only did a course grind and the machine wouldn't stop grinding until all the beans were emptied out of the bean hopper

Not badly made, still working strong after three months, but could no longer put up with its design defects, especially in morning, so just replaced it with a better made (alas, more costly) machine that performs as desired/expected.
