The cushion underneath is even and VERY comfortable for your lap.

I rate it four instead of five stars because the small bar across the bottom to keep your pen from rolling sometimes gets in the way of my writing tablet, but as a whole, the desk is a nice size, lightweight, and the cushion on the bottom is comfortable on my lap

I wish the cushion were a bit thicker to elevate the laptop a bit, and the surface could be slightly grippier - my mouse slides right for off when it’s at a slight angle.
