My husband thought it would be a good idea to get a portable one just in case we might need to install a windows update and this device is really easy to use

(Specifically installing Windows XP-7-8 with this device is a pain since it won't be recognized properly if you only have USB 3.0)A good drive, worth the cost with relatively minor drawbacks that are mostly to be expected from a compact, lightweight device.

The device is nice and durable.

So I downloaded VLC Media Player and then re-inserted the DVD, clicked it when the computer recognized the device and had it open/play the DVD with VLC and it worked

The only thing I would like to point out for laptop owners is using this device while on battery power MAY naturally drain the battery faster

As a burner this device is just fine and my MacBookPro recognized it simply by plugging in AND inserting a dvd

It's a well-designed device, very light and uses ONE single cable, unlike other cheaper models which require two cables (one for power and one for the data)..

The reader/writer can also be plugged into a television and used as a portable storage device (IE: The TV recognizes it as a USB drive so you can play videos, music or view photos that are on a CD-ROM

I'm sure this is a perfectly good device, but because it didn't work with my laptop, I had to send it back.

For the rare DVD user, it is an okay portable device that borrows power from the computer (no separate power needed).
