My Dad, made the bad choice of backing up to a volume on the same drive as his originals which cost him a lot of lost data

So in two different cases Buffalo's tech support has been an epic fail and Amazon has come through
Tech support told me that was normal while it was setting up.
I screwed my install up and had to call tech support off hours.
When I buy a unit I don't want to deal with a useless tech support staff that doesn't know anything or have to edit .ini files or type in a bunch of DOS prompts to get something to work, it's insane
Buffalo tech support could offer no explanation and no solution.
I would not call it business device , more useful as a home storage unit with media serving capabilities , though some of the fetures could be used for a small business if you want to adecent unit for a relatively cheap price.
The price was so cheap that I wondered if it had the drives in it.
5/5Price/Dollar: 3TB NAS for $130, good price and great
So 5 stars for a great product description and an affordable price
For this purpose, Time Machine backup, you could buy an Apple product--the Time Capsule--and I would if it weren't so expensive, literally twice the price for 3 TB of storage, although it does come with an integrated WiFi
The LinkStation 420 has UPS power backup support, but this was not in the initial firmware releases, so maybe this will get added to the 220 eventually
You may be happy with this unit, as it's not so much bad as not to my liking.
It provides services the LinkStation does not like NFS and iSCSI

Well, issue #1 would be resolvable if you wanted to, but #2 -- commands like "copy my files from directory A to directory B" can be done via the cumbersome web interface or INSANELY SLOWLY from your attached computer
Interface and apps with mobile devices is very poor and needs considerable improvement before this device can be called a "personal cloud".
The 4 drive WD EX-4 or Seagate NAS (2 or 4 bay) have great user interfaces
My biggest gripe about this unit is the horrible user interface
The 4 drive WD EX-4 or Seagate NAS (2 or 4 bay) have great user interfaces
Configuration is done through a frustrating series of web pages filled with edit buttons and a myriad of obscure features
I wouldn't buy it for the DLNA, or any of the other gimmicky features, as a unit of this class is just going to be frustrating being it lacks any kind of transcoding ability
It also has some good features for such a cheap NAS, like iTunes, DLNA, Web & FTP support
Some missing features like auto sleep, timer and others compare to LinkPro
It looks like it will be a good NAS with decent features (iTunes server
Their cloud connection service (BuffaloNAS) is free and facilitates access to your LinkStation without having to go through complex firewall configuration or setting up an external name with a service like DynDNS if you have a dynamic IP on your internet connection

This is a good idea but they need to work on the hardware and software, the FTP and web access Failed since it does not work at all, even forwarding the port and doing everything correctly will not help it is all for show
Unfortunately, I am denied access to various folders even when logged in as administrator from
Copying to the USB 3.0 external hard drive speed is merely a few M/s, even slower than IX2 that has only USB 2.0.
Note: you should watch for deals as the 421e has been on sale for less than $80 in the past!LS220 series vs LS420 series:The LinkStation 220 series is marginally less expensive than the comparable model of the LS420 series

From PC to NAS over GigE, it was a steady 55MB/s according to Windows
The drive trays that these discs are mounted on are made of cheap, bendable plastic, so extra care needs to be taken when adding or removing drives
It would never get 5 because of the cheap plastic constructions, but if everything else worked as it should, I would have rated it higher.
(WNDR4720).This item took more time to set up than I would have liked it to (and I'm still not convinced it works right)The disk are held in place in part with a cheap plastic bracket that feel like they are going to break every time I try to take
This item works as it should it's iPhone app still hasn't been updated to work with iOS 7
Documentation for Apple device and Mac users seems straightforward, but many non-Apple users may find they will need to do a bit of independent research in order to get the device to work as it should.

User beware that the RAID reconfiguration process will take some number of hours to complete so it’s best to decide up front which configuration is best for youOverall the size of the unit is fairly small at roughly 3.5” wide by 8” long and as such, the LinkStation 420 should fit nicely wherever you should decide to place it

it sees the hard disk but the hard disk is not formatted
The third selection has the capacity of RAID 0, but allows data on the undamaged disk to be read
On their own support forum, the topic "LS421DE cannot mount USB hard disk
" (look up what Novastor means by this, but essentially importing is required if your PC's hard disk fails).
By default it's set to work in RAID0, one thing I like a lot is that RAID volumes does not have to be the same size, so with my two old hard drives I ended up with a 420GB RAID0 which is a relieve because for some reason 4TB hard disks are so very expensive now days, so I could save to purchase one, install it in the NAS, and then keep saving for the other one, and another two of 2TB for its USB ports (limited to 2TB per port and no hub compatibility, as afar as I

If you want a NAS with USB 3.0 that is probably your least costly entry point
If you want a NAS with USB 3.0 that is probably your least costly entry point
Buffalo has provided simple and easy configuration tools and the ability to remotely access your data on the device from anywhere with a web connection is easily one of its greater selling points
This NAS has a 3 Year Warranty and 24/7 customer support that is a great selling point

I'm pretty tech savvy and was really hopeful that I would have a good experience despite all the bad reviews but unfortunately, I too have had a bad experience with this Buffalo LinkStation product.
This review is a work in process, one I will update as I have more opportunity to manipulate this unit but right now just getting the data available on it is a disappointing chore.
but I figured I would at least take the time to write a bad review before contacting a computer expert to figure it out.
So i overlooked all bad reviews and take the chance with LS421DE, it arrived on time it is true, even though Buffalo claims this NAS to perform 100MBs the box does say 80MBs, box is quite small and the NAS itself is quite compact, it only weight 4 pounds which was perfect for me
When I master the unit, and grow to love it, I'll revamp the review in an orderly manner, and give it a final rating
