Even with the plastic case between the metal strip and the magnet, it maintains a strong hold on the phone -- it won't budge.

It's super convenient to place your phone to the magnetic base and it has a strong hold on the phone even with a case on it.

Good fitment; good pressure pads (don't have to worry about it slipping out); the magnet is strong; the metal plate for your phone is thin enough to fit well inside a case; the hold of the magnet is good even for my bumpy case.

Purchased to replace an old mount with a weak magnet -- with my old mount, the phone would move around, flip, fall off etc

The holder is very secure with an easy pivot magnetic stand

Tried couple of AC vent holders and they never served the purpose.

I used to use the magnets that sit in the A/C vents and my phone is so huge that it flies off sometimes because the clips aren't secure enough in the vent holder

I use my gps a lot but didn't want my phone sitting up on the dash blocking my view, and vent holders don't fit in my truck

That didn't last long, and it blocked my vent which was really annoying, especially on hot days when it blocked the AC.I decided that I wanted to try a magnetic mount since it's annoying to mess with clips and clamps, so I got one that sticks to the dash with adhesive

This is made very well I had bought a one from another vendor and it broke cheap plastics

but I was afraid I would crack the plastic around the slot if I did so.

The finish is not your standard hard plastic, but rather it has a nice soft velvet matte touch to it.

Every other dock i have used has been made of cheap plastic

The problem with this, however, is then your phone will be lower and the ugly wing nut will be facing up making it even more unappealing.

Well, except the large wing nut screw that hangs down.

That configuration works at least on smooth road or parked otherwise direct contact is better

I left the plate off and because the mount mag is so stronge my phone does not budge even on bumpy roads.

Even over bumpy roads, the phone never fell off or even moved around once.

My phone is heavy and it holds in place, even on bumpy bumpy roads.

The strong magnet holds the phone securely over bumpy roads.

So much better than the ones that attach to the ac vents!

It doesn't block an AC vent and it's not out of reach on my windshield

It also leaves room for the AC vents to blow around (and as a bonus, blows on the back of the iPad to keep it cool).
