This is a pretty good buy for the money but it is a finer media and requires the proper mesh bag!

Other downsides to this carbon are the small particle size and the large dust cloud when dealing with the dry product.

Water chemistry is very good in the tank, but I do have both the Off the Tank Emperor and another 400 gph canister in a well cycled tank so it is difficult for me to tell if the carbon is making any difference.

It is "dirty" and must be rinsed thoroughly in cold water.

Water is crystal clear and I had an smell from the tank which also cleared up.

Charcoal works fine, please note: do not buy this charcoal if you plan to use it in refillable mesh bags for aquarium filters.. the fine grade charcoal leaked through the mesh and escaped into the aquarium water

I really don't know how well the carbon works as a filter; probably quite well.

I found that the charcoal is VERY dusty and clogs up the filter
