After a couple of hours of playing, the bass is not boomy and it doesn't bleed into the mid-range much if at all, which is my main gripe with lower-grade gear (lower-grade than this, that is).

The Woburn is not that much larger or more obtrusive than the Stanmore, and I believe the difference in cost is well worth the improved tone, bass and volume

However, we couldn’t find a nice level to have the bass setting - it was overpowering and fatiguing, but adjusting down the bass with the knob just turned down the fatigue and didn’t help well defined bass to come through

The two sets of speakers in the Woburn are mere inches apart, preventing any semblance of stereo imaging, and the tonal balance - characterized by slightly exaggerated bass and rolled off higher frequencies - would disappoint an ardent audiophile seeking to use this as a main system.

Rock styling and volume boasts not withstanding, typical rock mixes just sound like they're coming from a boxy monaural speaker, not even the equal of the best jam boxes of old (JVC), except for the bass and distortion-free volume.

And, although it isn't the most well-defined bass I've heard, I'm surprised both by how low the small woofers go and how punchy the bass can get without coloring the vocal range.
