And, while I didn’t want to spend a great deal on this uke (about $500), I wanted a very good sounding solid
I think they give me a clearer sound and are easier to play than the nylon strings that come on most ukuleles
Two different friends commented that it's a little bass heavy (for an ukulele), but I'm happy that it has a warmer sound than most other ukes I've played
Tone is subjective and my wife knows that I like to hand pick my guitars to get the best sound possible, which is why I was surprised that she went out on a limb and ordered a uke for me.

I would definitely recommend this ukulele to anyone who is getting more serious with their ukulele playing and wants to take a step up from the entry-level instruments out there.
And, as you might imagine, there are some great instruments out there
This instrument played as well or better than some priced twice as much.
In all, this is a great little instrument that makes really pretty music.

I'm not sure if the top of the ukulele is a single piece of koa wood or just 2 very well matched pieces, but it looks much more classy than other ukuleles I have seen that have a very visible and distracting line down the front

As to strings, I do have a set of my favorite "Living Water" strings, as well as "Aquila" strings, waiting to try, but just can't do it until the Martins on there go completely flat.

This is a wonderful ukulele, both in build quality and sound
I bought the Martin C1K to have a good, but less expensive ukulele that I just didn't have to worry about as much when camping and other less gentle settings.
