The MEINL Bongo Cajon is a compact cajon with high and low pitched areas similar to a bongo, but with a woody cajon sound. It is constructed in the traditional Peruvian style without any snares to produce a clean, warm tone that...
I am not sure about using it for drum circles - it can be loud, but only if you hit it really hard, and since the thing is made of solid wood your hands will also take a beating
Wood is soft to the touch, comfortable hold but disappointing sound for my taste, probably should have returned
If your considering buying this drum then wait no longer, the only hesitation i made was deciding whether to get this one or the slightly more pricey meinl snare bongo cajon, but i wanted a solid wood drum, no holes drilled for adjustment screws, completely
I know wood reacts to moisture and humidity as well, but not like skins and so far I have not had any issues with this product
Its made of very sturdy wood and the multiple sounds that you can get out of this amazing box is awesome
Despite all of that, you can make them sound alot like regular bongos too, so not a bad drum for beginners although it takes some time to find all of the numerous sweet spots
Does require a bit of playing around with it to find the sweet spot for the different sounds this can produce, especially the lower tone.
I say fairly easy because on the small side (drum) you have to hunt a bit for the sweet spot (the place that sounds the best) on the drum.
However, after playing it for a while I have finally found the sweet spots, and started developing a better technique, and as a result I have begun enjoying this instrument immensely
I love this thing and recommend it to anyone whether to practice, looking for a new sound or just to play around with
I was engulfed with the beautiful smell of wood and it is a beautiful thing to look at
I have to admit this little bongo cajon really surprised me, i honestly wasn't expecting much for $50, even after watching countless video's and reading tons of reviews on it, very few things are ever really that good once you get them in person

The snares offer a mixture between some tinniness of a metal drum, or drums with metal rims [such as a djembe], with the vibration feeling of traditional snare drums, and a nice solid tone, that gives it a good balance on the larger low tone side

It has more tones available than this drum, and is, overall, great

The LP absolutely has more thought put into it's ergonomics and finishes, easily as high of quality, maybe not more playbility of the surfaces, but definitely brighter tones
Also remember that in some of the demos, the drums are being played by professionals, who can make a mediocre drum sound awesome

The snares are clean and this is a really fun drum to play
So don't think it is the drum's fault if, right out of the box, it doesn't sound like the demo videos you've seen and heard
