I also purchased a gold 5g mouthpiece seperately and it has improved my experience with this euphonium even further.
Yamaha’s are known for being great mouthpieces with phenomenal range, but at the same time having the capacity to reach low notes ringing in the low register.
I suspect that my perceived intonation issues would improve with a better mouthpiece.
The only thing I didn't like was the C comes out very flat
The mouthpiece just didn't "feel right" when playing the horn.

and if they get serious about music as they progress further, then make another investment on a higher quality horn as they have then earned it!
This was an awesome value because we were able to get my son a new instrument for cheaper than the used ones were being sold for at the local music store chain
Let me personally give you the go ahead to buy this, it is a fantastic value.

Love the case that it came in; it comes with everything it says it comes with
If you do cut the strap off, still be sure to open with the external pocket side facing up, as the weight of the instrument will jerk the case open if you let it, possibly damaging the case
While it's not a hard-cased one, I promise it doesn't mean the case is flimsy in any way
The case is very sturdy and has held up well to my kids riding it like a horse
I understand that new horns have a break in period, and that new valves may sometimes be slow, but it seems unacceptable to me that the valves would actually stick and not fully return to open position, even right after a thorough oiling
The sticky/slow piston issue remains, which makes it virtually impossible to play any fast moving passage, or to play legato from any note that uses a 'slow' valve to one that doesn't.
Get a good brand of Valve Oil like Blue Juice and when oiling do not take he valve clear out
this instrument is great i have had it for about six months and it is still doing good the valves all work wonderfully and and the tuning slides fit perfectly it has a nice roomy sound even when played loudly or softly
Loud valves and not as mechanically smooth as other instruments
due to possible intonation issues with select notes but it is a fantastic introductory horn or simply just for fun as in my case.
There are some intonation issues with certain notes, but if you actually know what you are doing with the tuning slides and alternate/4th valve fingerings it can be mitigated.
I suspect that my perceived intonation issues would improve with a better mouthpiece.

None of the other review's I've read have mentioned intonation issues.
