The music is great, the sound is great, the graphics are great, and the gameplay is great even if it's a little awkward controlling Samus at some times
And it absolutely ruins the gameplay.
(no, an upgraded version of a metroid doesn't count).[End spoilers]But anyway, it's a fun game with great gameplay (always the case with Metroid), nice graphics (doesn't matter to me), and ok music (nothing special here except remakes and such)
Great throwback to Classic Metroid gameplay not as polished as a full Nintendo release but still a great game to play
The game utilizes the 3-D effect pretty well and gameplay feels nice and responsive
The gameplay is extremely smooth and natural-feeling, and once you get used to it you almost wonder how you ever got by without free aiming
The addition of free aiming and the melee counter add a lot to the combat.
The abilities & improved aiming was great, as was the melee defense
The weapons and gameplay take a lot from the game while adding a few new concepts like free aim
If you want an example, I spent about an hour in the first area dying repeatedly before I even faced the first Metroid because I really didn't want to use the move, so I watched a video about the game to find out what I why I sucked at
The graphics are really good, though I think this game was intended to be played on a 3DS and not a 2DS or a 2DSXL (which I own.

As nice as the game looks, I can't help but feel saddened that the dark, beautiful pixel graphics of Zero Mission and Fusion have been replaced by the bright
Great graphics, 3D, exploration, level design, music and atmosphere
All-in-all, this is a superb portable entry and much more than an appetizer for the patient fans who have been waiting for Metroid's return to its roots.
I'm glad to experience this entry in the series thanks to the redesign
n’t go wrong with this game
A fantastic update of a classic entry in one of my favorite series of all time, Metroid: Samus Returns is exactly what I was hoping for
I hope that Nintendo continues to support this series with both new games, and mixes it up with more remasters of classic entries.
I really don't know why Nintendo seems to hate the Metroid series so much that we get games in the series so rarely, but I really would like to get more Metroid games more frequently.
An honorable remake and a must-have for any Metroid fan; please support this series.
Really no reason to not own this if you like the series at all.
I highly recommend this game for anyone who likes the Metroid series and probably even for first time players.

This is an amazing remake of the game Metroid II for game boy, it has the mechanics and features of the newer versions of metroid mixed with the old difficulty
Zero Mission was a far better remake of Metroid 1 than this game was of Metroid 2, especially with the fan
Another remake, but considering how dated Metroid II was, we can overlook it, especially if the game is well made...but is it?Yes, and no
This is a Great remake of the first metroid game I played when I was a kid
Other Aeion abilities allow Samus to do such things as slow down time, utilize a rapid fire effect or put up an additional shield to soak up some damage
A straight-forward Metroid experience, "Samus Returns" is easy enough for newcomers to the series, and has a few new features to keep veterans stimulated, such as parrying attacks, and a panoply of amusing armor abilities which range from shielding and rapid fire to sonar pulses for mapping out the immediate vicinity
enemies that eat away your precious aeon energy, which you may need for later have to kill them with rapid fire and they get annoying the more you see
You can also rapid fire your beam, slow time, and gain a shield which blocks damage at the cost of energy.

A great, faithful return to one of my favorite games growing up.
This was an excellent return to the Metroid series after a few hiccups
n’t go wrong with this game
It would have been a great return to everything that made Metroid a classic game, and some improvements on gameplay, EXCEPT this touted melee attack feature is used as a quick-time event throughout the game, every little critter has one and all of the bosses too
Okay potential SPOILER as to avoid returning or destroying your game and 3ds or 2ds.
Similar to the original too, the pacing at the end kind of drags on as the last few Metroids are chased down, and the final bosses are going to frustrate many players because they take so long to kill and tend to make your hands cramp
the RETURN of CLASSIC 2D Metroid ... the RETURN of the quality the series was known for before.- best use of the her powers and progression- incredible creative map design that makes you think- amazing boss fights that have multiple ways for you to take them down.
The bosses are very challenging, not too hard once you figure out the pattern to defeat the boss.
The bosses are definitely the most difficult part of this game, but it's not like you'll be stuck on them for hours
The bosses are absolutely amazing and is the reason I still enjoyed the game despite its many flaws
The game utilizes the 3-D effect pretty well and gameplay feels nice and responsive
Graphics are amazing and the 360 degree aiming ability is an awesome addition
The new melee attack is a nice addition, but it is taking me some time to adjust to using it.

Does Samus Returns capture the same desperate combat and lonely, claustrophobic feeling of exploration as Return of Samus?Thankfully, yes
Veterans to the series will also find this game to be equally as challenging as previous Metroid games and new abilities such as the melee counter attack change up combat from what you're used to
Gameplay:plays alright tough the combat is ridiculous when you gotta remember to use your counter attack or else you'll get hit, something easy to forget when shooting works best, same for shield bashing in zeda botw, enemies are vicious and will attack at
In a sense, these two elements improve on aspects of Super Metroid and Prime, the two best Metroid games: The counter attack element means the combat feels like a more essential part of the game than it did in Super Metroid (or any of the Metroids that followed that formula), and the game save change alleviates one of the few flaws of Metroid Prime (situations where you'd have to replay almost an hour of the game because dying in a difficult boss fight sent you
Lots of stuff to find and collect, nice combat and nice visuals
Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some metroids to go kill.
The game utilizes the 3-D effect pretty well and gameplay feels nice and responsive
Your goal is to go roaming through areas and defeat enough Metroids to get a pool of acid to lower even further so that you can explore deeper
the title is a superb choice for a remake as 'metroid II' is generally regarded as the weakest title in the series, despite introducing many staples of the series.the story is the same as the original, samus is dispatched to SR388 to destroy all the metroids
Metroids are not limited to the 5/10/20/50 missiles to kill arrangement of the original, and some of the Metroid fights are also not limited to just one room
helps finding itemsthe lovely background and artCons:Enemies do way too much damageannoying and painful attacksthe lighting armor is just a green glownot enough save/ammo stationsthey changed the suit againnot enough enemy varietyno scan to read on enemies, creatures and other lifeformsnot much for beam weapons or mixing like in Super or Prime
Just about every enemy in the game has an attack that, with good timing, this move is built to counter
most enemies will flicker and make a clicking sound before attacking, by using the melee counter, the enemy will be stunned and left vulnerable to easily attack
There's also the major new addition of the Melee counter, where most(a few don't) of the game enemies will flash before attempting to charge at you and pressing the button at the right time will give a short(3 to 5 seconds) slow downed moment of Samus using her canon to knock the enemy away for what is sometimes an instant kill attack except against the bosses
If you pull off a successful counter, the enemy is stunned for a period, and can be dispatched readily
This game is as close to perfect as I think could be made, especially with so many "cooks in the kitchen"
That being said, however, what I find the most fascinating about finding powerups (whether they be more missiles or energy tanks) is that getting a lot of them is like solving a puzzle
That helped me out more than once, especially when Metroids now have many more ways of attacking Samus to make the fights interesting, and at times dangerous depending on how many energy tanks one may have early on
Nonetheless, this game is *not* easy - many enemies take out an entire energy tank or more, and bosses can take out several just with one hit - and that's on Normal difficulty
Many enemies (even after getting the best armor) still do an entire energy tank of damage.
The original Gameboy game had a surprisingly large number of power ups for such a simple game, but Samus Returns expands on them to provide power ups that would make appearances in other Metroid games such as the gravity suit, power bombs and the grapple beam
, red hurts you, the trick is to use power bombs to launch yourself in morphball mode with spider ball, which is a hidden skill which is never hinted at in the game, just like you needed to use the power bomb on the metroid queen in other m, very annoying
Some of the combat mechanics, especially the big fight against the Diggernaut (guardian of the Power Bomb), are unclear
