Even at close distance (a 25 feet or so) the sound clarity is terrible.

The buttons are positioned well, and the clarity is good.

When the battery dont lost the contact it works great, distance, clarity, are very good

The only complaint I have is for the ear pieces: the sound gets scrambled unless you're 5 feet apart and essentially become useless after 100 yards or so

The sound on them is very clear & like that it has covers for all of the holes, since I sometimes work around water.

These units are quite large compared to some of the other models available.

With regard to the Motorola brands, the more your pay generally equals more water resistance and more range.

Don't be fooled - every inch of these is light weight, cheap plastic.

However they do not get the kind of range you might expect if there is rough terrain around.

Make sure to use the high frequency button whenever you are dealing with uneven terrain or thick brush/trees or the reception with be pretty fuzzy.

NOAA weather is great to have, and can be used from almost anywhere.

It sometimes makes this very high pitch and loud noise in your ear when you turn it on

, it will not stay on the desired channel, it seems the chip inside has something wrong with it, weird noises when you try to transmit, radio freezes up constantly.

The conversations were clear & never any hiss noise when on.

Most of the ship no hiss noise when in a conversation, but did experience a little through 9 story's of steel & accross the ship, next to the ships radar.

Also, I would not trust the plastic clips that come with the radio

Again, since I store them in a bag, it hasn't been a real issue for me and doesn't detract from the overall quality of the radios (which is very good), but it would have been nice if it came with sturdier clips.

My biggest complaint is that the clips on them are terrible.

After hitting a couple ski hills where our phones didn't work (no cell coverage), I picked these up for the family.

That first run was our easy warm up run and she never had a hard fall and only skidded onto her bottom a couple of times when she lost her back heel edge

a lot.if you use the headset with it you have to say "one two three" then continue speaking - otherwise your first couple of words will be missed

If I were to suggest some improvements for Motorola, I'd say that the ergonomics could be improved (these units don't feel as good in the hand as my old Uniden radios), and work with third party vendors to make high quality plugin headsets/mics, as the couple that I've tried thus far have been a disappointment on Motorola Talkabout radios.

So now I am left with one kick ass radio, two belt clips that I will never trust again, and three questions:1

Dinged them a star for the cheap belt clips, which broke after about a week.

but I do find the two methods of transport (belt-clip or no belt-clip) a bit lacking and either a more sturdy carry case or a way to lockout the transmit buttons while in transport would be nice

Around town they don't work very well maybe 100 feet on a good day

Otherwise about 1000 feet is the limit for clear communication.
