Motorolla known for their quality but these are not well built.
The sound was crystal like the building was made of wood so it proves the transmitter is high quality
It's apparent that these are well built units unlike cheaper radios which look like toys
First, these are well built, feel great and sturdy in your hand.
Everything works but speaker is a bit low and creates lots of static even with strong signals (Compared to my Motorola MT350R is much better with audio and overall reception) other than that the radio is well built and very stylish.
I also like the new button layout having PTT flashlight and emergency button all on one side, and the rubberized tops and bottoms is nice too
Very handy wit the little LED flashlight - bright enough for nighttime walking
What I like:-Rugged construction can take a good beating-weather-proof design; IP-54 rating-uses rechargeable batteries; can also use 3x AA batteries-Push-to-Talk Power Boost can increase transmission power, and goes back to low transmission (to conserve battery power) when not needed-built-in LED flashlight turns on when power goes out (but also turns on when unplugged)-micro-USB charging port for rechargeable battery
These work perfect and sound is clear that I am comfortable enough to go out into the woods on my own!
The sound is good and you can control he volume with the off-on switch
very good sound at large range or even inside buildings
When you tell the other person to speak louder, the sound gets really distorted
I bough these radios after being disappointed by Midland's design decisions WRT battery life management - but those at least worked properly - loud and clear sound, adequate power, no issues with receiver overload (even being were 5W units), etc.
The vibrate feature is also really cool when it is loud and you might not hear an all call.

Haven't really used them much yet, but these seem to have nice features.
I have to admit that the charging is actually the top feature that attracted me to this - on a weeklong ski trip you can bet you're going to need batteries at some point.
The radio is weather and water proof and that is a good feature
It's just an incredible product I used other walkie talkies before but none compared to the Motorola walkie talkies.
Motorola has historically had a good product reputation.
Can't recommend this product enough to anyone
For such a great quality product, Motorola should have designed and supplied a good easy to read manual booklet instead of the instruction sheet they included
Some other versions of this talk unit ( another company)have claims of 12 to 17 miles , but I would likely put the upper range at 12 to 17 miles with the right conditions on this unit
I've had conversations in terrible conditions...thick swamp ones and hardwood trees...stil l reached almost 2 miles
The range is wide as stated on the pack, but a more solid estime of the 2 to 35 mile range is a solid 2 to 5 miles, with an ability to go much further with the right conditions
Lol, maybe on paper, under perfect conditions using line of sight
These Motorola Talkabout T460s are neither toys nor anachronisms but high-quality, powerful communication devices that work where not a cell tower is in sight, with a purported line-of-sight range of up to 35 miles, under optimal conditions
The styling just seems like very good quality and hand feel, they look like baby business radios
Not very good distance hardly a mile or so , and very fuzzy quality , the actual walkie is nice it has a flash light and seems to be pretty rouged and water resistant
The "weatherproofing" is a total joke and the sound quality is utter garbage
Also when the Motorola was in range the audio quality seems worse than the
These T460 radios have a professional feel to them like the build quality and construction of radio feels heavyduty or commercial like
We get a pretty good distance on these if we are not in a built up area with buildings in the way.
Usable distance in town or out in the timber is wonderful, you just have to ensure you are on the high power capable channels if you go to far.

Distance has not been an issue for us, he never goes more than a mile or so away.
This is a perfect distance for the casual camper or those playing outdoor games
but when your near buildings at a mall or in difficult coverage areas or poor or no line of sight as many of us know these radios can become useless so its nice to see the midlands power and clarity shine in a tough challenge I gave it
Also the Midland menu is nowhere near as good as
this unit way work better or worse in the odd weather areas.

Battery life is a little disappointing as you need to charge them daily but since they use micro-usb chargers it's super easy to use a portable battery pack or solar charger for camping.
One of them arrives missing its rechargeable battery pack.
The rechargeable packs make life easy close to civilization
Also the Midland menu is nowhere near as good as
Bought the two pack recently and they didnt work well at all
and if we have any future cold weather issues, I will update this post.
Press and release the (Menu Lock) and the channel number will begin to flash, and press "+" or "-" until you pick-up your strongest weather channel signal
These units are rugged and will withstand some rough treatment and bad weather, although the size is more reminiscent of a walkie 20 years ago than today
Range is also very good in our residential neighborhood although foul weather does decrease range
Radio works great and also flashlight weather reception a little weak
Their only flaw is their lack of clip to attach to you.
This series has a great look and feel - they seem very robust and have a general feel of quality - but if you have any desire to use them as rechargeable then they have an annoying fundamental flaw
Also the Midland menu is nowhere near as good as
I do not recommend them due to the nagging flaws in design and especially not for the higher price they are going for at this time.

Both radios need to be set at the same channel number and same interference code.
Press and release the (Menu Lock) and the channel number will begin to flash, and press "+" or "-" until you pick-up your strongest weather channel signal
To change channels (radio channels and weather channels), it tells you "With the radio on, press (Menu Lock) until the channel number starts to flash."
What they should have written is "press and release (Menu Lock) and the channel number will start to flash."

When testing them I stood 5 feet from him and it would not work, I'd have to try 5 or 6 times before it would send anything
At a distance (few tens to hundred feet) -- received voice stutters and varies in volume at random and abruptly - very hard to listen and discern what's being said
Yet it was possible to hear up to another 1000 feet worst case opening the squelch toward the end and maybe half that distance without having to open the squelch but fuzzier and the Motorola did nothing at all

I have read countless negative reviews of Midlands quality control
Other reviews here had me worried, but I ended up buying anyways
Saw this model on several review websites for walkie talkies to bring skiing, but was a little nervous after the mix of bad reviews (that also can be seen for almost any other walkie
