Still don’t like plastic but it seems to be working fine.

I had it on a smooth plastic surface for a month or so but it kept unsticking and falling off because the surface was slightly curved and didn't provide an ideal suction when engaging it

This product should not be exposed to any serious heat, as sitting in a hot car weakened the plastic enough to allow it to break in half
