• Reviews around plastic (2.86 of 5)

Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew 10-Cup Thermal Coffeemaker System, BVMC-PSTX91-RB

    • Feels like very cheap plastic
    • But then and this is why I give it only 3 stars, I got to the actual thermal carafe and while it's stainless steel, the upper part were the lid meets the steels is plastic, and in my case this plastic did have a huge white stain all around it
    • Only negative is that I didn't think about how the white plastic begins to stain with use.
    • I cleaned it with soap and water and ran hot water through it two times and coffee through it 10 times, and still the plastic toxic smell would not go away.
    • China plastic runamuck = an insult.
    • No leaks, no plastic smell, no problems
    • It doesn't taste any more like plastic than any other plastic made machine on the market (and trust me, I've tried a few!), so don't let a single bad review turn you off to it!With that said, if you're a coffee snob, you're not going to like this machine
    • the lid on the water reservoir used to be attached by two strong plastic rods
    • Very strong plastic smell/taste out of the box
    • There is also a problem with the filter basket as well, It gives off a not nice plastic smell
    • so I removed the bottom cover to search for a problem, had to break some plastic to remove the heating element and hoses
    • Plastic is deteriorating where it meets the metal
    • but still my first two pots tasted like hot plastic
    • : All a coffee lover wants to do is have a great cup of coffee to test out their new machine, but when it smells and tastes like toxic plastic, even after doing the recommended first pot of water and cleaning, the novelty of the purchase wears off
    • That part still has a strong plastic smell to it
    • When I was preparing the new machine to make coffee there was a strong chemical/plastic odor that I was not happy about - and almost sent it back.
    • However - out of the box, the unit had a very strong plastic smell
    • The "pause & Serve" feature did not function ...the necessary hardware (flimsy plastic pieces and spring broke from the unit
    • Has a terrible plastic TOXIC smell that will not go away.
    • No issue after you break it in to get rid of those terrible plastic smells (10+ cycles of water at least)
    • My old Braun poured as fast as if there were no cap, and it kept the coffee as hot amd for as long as this one
    • I read some of the complaints as well as the many positives before buying and I can say that the complaints are largely 1) user error or 2) impatience
    • I set mine to brew at 8:45 AM, and by noon my coffee was still as hot as if I had just made it
    • My last thermal pot I had to turn the lid to get coffee, this one you only have to push down on a lever as you pour, much easier
    • Love this coffee maker and mine is still working but the rubber seal on the pot is worn out so it is not keeping the coffee as warm as
    • When it happened to my husband twice yesterday morning, and he said his once enjoyable morning routine had turned into a stressful way to start the day, I picked up a simple no frills coffeepot that hopefully will work as it's supposed to
    • If you wait too long to due a cleaning your coffee maker will poop out due to hard water deposits build up.
    • Of note is that the machine will let you know when it is time to clean, and will not make coffee, as far as I can tell, until cleaned.
    • The hottest I was able to get out of room temperature water (~76°f) was 175°f, well below the billed brewing temperature.
    • Finally, a full bodied cup of coffee - but - it was older and wasn't keeping the coffee as hot as I liked
    • Our very basic Mr. C died the other day after eight years and I knew I wanted to stick with them
