Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew 10-Cup Thermal Coffeemaker System, BVMC-PSTX91-RB

    • Use some hot water in the pot, (pre heat) and your coffee will still be amazingly hot 7 hours later, and not taste burnt
    • I have well water and found that the water filter doesn't make a difference in taste for
    • I read the manual, followed all instructions, rinsed and washed and ran clear water through, used a newly purchased Mr Coffee metal basket as recommended.
    • However, the water reservoir does not drain fully, and water remains in the machine even after brewing.
    • I’m keeping the carafe and going Back to the stove top boiling water poured through a funnel with a coffee filter in it
    • We have hard water and the paper disk filters catch the sediment.
    • I don't know about uou , but I like my coffee made with clean water
    • Generally the last time the coffee grounds stay in hot water the better your coffee will taste
    • This is the main reason you will find people complaining about it spilling coffee all over their counter, coffee doesn't drain from filter basket as fast as the incoming water.
    • So I've found that starting out with hot water ensures a very hot cup of coffee.
    • I put very hot water in it to begin with, so it does brew faster as well
    • I ran straight water then two pots of cheap coffee through it to break it
    • Half the time we get a decent cup of coffee, and sometimes it comes out SUPER watered down
    • I purchased this coffee maker unfortunately the unit was dead on arrival and while it brew the first batch of hot water (as per the directions) it then proceeded to leak water and refused to brew ever again
    • THE WAY UP, SOMEHOW EXCESS WATER IS TRAPPED IN THE MACHINE FROM PRIOR BREWING, CAUSING OVERFLOWING.4
    • I'll be looking for something new to replace this, since I can't keep drinking bad tasting water.
    • Water filler very convenient
    • It didn't smell or taste like anything but brown hot water
    • What else... the little valve that stops this machine from filling the carafe with coffee when you remove it from the machine was problematic, it was sometimes making the hot water back up into the coffee filter basket, making hot water with coffee grounds spill out all over the counter.
    • The only issue with removing the water filter is the hot water doesn't pour evenly over the grinds.
    • It does not leak any water at all
    • The faster the water pours over coffee, the weaker it is
    • However, after giving the machine two rinses, one with white vinegar and the second with clean water, we now get as perfect and smooth a pot of coffee as I've ever had.
    • IF I heat the carafe first with very hot water.
    • Our first one of these lasted 3 years we have bought three more sense for friends and family our water is very hard 3 years is a long time for a coffee pot here
    • I created my own trick by "cleaning" it with microwaved hot water before use
    • It was almost as if the water was so hot during the brewing process that we would be left with a pot of burned coffee at the end.
    • We like our coffee to taste like Coffee, not weak flavored hot water.
    • Well, I love the look at this coffee maker, but my big complaint is that (1) coffee doesn't come out hot unless I've pre-heated the pot with hot water, and (2) it doesn't keep the coffee hot past 30 minutes
    • Instead of filtering the water before it is heated, it filters hot water into the coffee grounds
    • I poured a cup of the hot water to taste it , the taste of just plain water was like putting straight glue into my mouth
    • In a "normal" coffee pot, that means you just brewed a pot of really hot water
    • I'm using filtered water from a Brita faucet mount filter, so I doubt my water is clogging up the machine.
    • Coffee experts recommend that hot water should not pour over your coffee grounds longer than 5 min
    • and I like it, but every once in a while it churns out a pot of what can only be described as light brown coffee flavored hot water.
    • Well, let's say you fill it with ground coffee and water, set the timer, but forget to put the carafe in place
    • After about 6 months it was taking 20+ minutes to brew an entire pot and by 10 months the unit didn't warm water enough to make a decent cup
    • and I guess it's because the water is hotter
    • Each morning the machine was clogged (after we ran water only to clear the clog) and coffee was seeping out of every single one of Mr. Coffee's orifices.-- Returning items to Amazon and replacing it with a Bialetti machine
    • I'm happy to purchase my 2nd coffee maker as it gives me exactly what I need: a above-average quality insulated carafe which will keep your coffee hot for many, many hours, an easily understood user interface, and convenient water tank that is lifted off the left side of the coffee maker to be positioned under a faucet for easy refill
    • I don't know how but most of the hot water bypasses the coffee grounds, making the coffee weak.
    • It really looks premium, and the detachable water reservoir is such an improvement over typical cheap coffee makers
    • The suggestion to make sure to shake the grounds level before starting the machine did not help because my problem is the water even getting to the grounds
    • If you don't want to go through this hassle, I tested it just for the review, running warm/hot water from your sink through it will at least keep it 4+ hours hot and fresh tasting
    • I am disappointed as we have very hard water and coffee
    • I would recommend using filtered water for better tasting coffee and to increase the unit's life
    • The clear removable water reservoir is awesome.
    • You just end up with colored hot water.
    • The water reservoir does not leak at all
    • I found that it'll keep it a little hotter a little longer if i rinse the canister in hot water before I start brewing.
    • If I'm making a small amount of coffee I will sometimes run the carafe under hot water to warm it up first.
    • The coffee basket has a hinged lid containing a filter presumably there to remove particulate matter from the hot water that flows through the basket.
    • Hasn't leaked coffee, thankfully I guess for easier clean-up, only water
    • It helps to preheat the carafe in hot water
    • I wanted to clean it out and see how hot the water stayed.
    • In the last few weeks of its use, the water began exiting the grounds basket slower than it was entering, probably due to hard water scale built up inside unit
    • My wife thinks the carafe should keep the coffee hot longer (I always warm it first before I make the coffee).PRO - looks nice - water reservoir comes out and fits nicely into our fridge water dispenser - not expensiveCONS - inconsistent (sometime good, sometimes quite bad) / dry grounds - LED display and timer stopped working after about 18 months
    • For those of the reviewers that complain the coffee is not hot enough, try rinsing the carafe in hot water before a pot is brewed
    • and then after a year or so, it can start to leak water from the bottom.
    • I didn't really like the removable water
    • What was in the pot was not coffee, but just brown hot water
    • However, after doing the instruction reading, and running a full cycle of cold water (ALL WENT PERFFECTLY
    • You don't use the carafe to transfer water to the maker so it doesn't cool down the carafe.
    • Even after the reservoir is removed, the machine has to be turned upside down drain the unused water.
    • It makes coffee very fast, that's for sure, but the water is not over the grounds long enough to get any flavor from them.
    • In order to have a hot cup of coffee with this coffeemaker, I have to preheat the carafe with hot water AND preheat my cup too.
    • It seemed like a distinct area of the coffee grounds didn’t get water
    • It has a water filter that captures all the hard water and makes the coffee taste wonderful
    • I cleaned it with soap and water and ran hot water through it two times and coffee through it 10 times, and still the plastic toxic smell would not go away.
    • To keep it hotter for longer, I fill the Thermal canister with very hot water.
    • There is a potential liability for Mr. Coffee if someone gets ill from this contaminated water that stays in there forever and no way to drain or clean it.
    • But our hard water was rough on it and now that we have a water softener we are buying a new one.
    • The hot water that leaked destroyed a $100 cutting board, discolored my backsplash and counter top
    • Hot watered the pot etc before hand
    • Detachable water holder makes filling easy
    • Plastic smell out of the box was disgusting; requires thorough soak and scrub in hot, soapy water, and at least 3 times running water through.
    • Two things, the water was not that hot after an hour, but more importantly was the INTENSE smell of glue that came out when I took the lid off
    • Coffee tastes very weak, like coffee flavored hot water with a tinge of plastic
    • But, I couldn't recommend this machine based on the fact of needing to deal with a big mess while dialing in grind size and water to coffee ratios
    • I liked that it had a detachable water tank
    • Water leaks when you toss the old grounds.
    • I ran hot water through it to clean
    • I love the removable (and therefore cleanable) water well
    • The it spewed coffee and water a few times all over the counterToday it refused to make coffee, just had a a constant tone
    • Pros:-Uses metal or standard paper filters-Has a optional water filter slot (comes with one filter, they last a bout a month but rent necessary if you like your tap water or use a britta-type filter-Have not had flooding or leaking issues in any way
    • We keep our home cool at night and the carafe will be cool to start so it only takes a minute to set it in the sink and run the hot water while you are getting it ready.
    • I will start it brewing and then empty the hot water and towel off the outside of the carafe and place it back in the coffee maker.
    • I use it daily, but when on vacation, it could sit for a couple weeks, potentially creating hard water deposits, or worse, allowing mold to grow
    • It has a handy water reservoir that removes for filling at the sink...this is why you need to remember to empty the old coffee from the pot...you are not using the pot to fill the reservoir
    • After 2 yrs starting to leak water after every pot smh pissed
    • After about 6 months it was taking 20+ minutes to brew an entire pot and by 10 months the unit didn't warm water enough to make a decent cup
    • Open the lid after, remove the hot water, close the lid and then place it under the coffee maker and press the start button
    • I am not using the water filter however as I have excellent water here in MI.
    • We have to rinse the carafe with hot water before starting to brew and then microwave the coffee cups with the added creamer to even come close to an acceptable temperature.
    • I really like it, except that the water reservoir arrived cracked
    • Has a tendency to dump coffee and water all over the place if something's not done exactly right
    • BTW after I put the coffee in the canister, I then put some hot water in that to make it stronger
    • If you put hot water in the pot and let it warm up prior to brewing it will stay warm for 5-6 hours easily
    • Pot is easy to fill with the detachable water tank.
    • We have very mineral-rich water where I
    • The faster the water pours over coffee, the weaker it is
    • With the water so hot it basically scalds complex flavors out of the beans and makes the coffee a bit bitter
    • The brewing is great, though (right temperature, speed, etc), so if you have soft water or brew coffee with distilled water, then this is the pot for you.
    • The only issue with removing the water filter is the hot water doesn't pour evenly over the grinds.
    • The water gets very hot
    • Wash the filter basket, water tank, and carafe with mild liquid dish soap and hot water
    • It made a cup of coffee that was basically warm water with no coffee in it.
    • Just fill the reservoir, run it, dump the water when its done and repeat
    • The pot & the water reservoir leaked
    • I preheat it with hot water from the tap before making a pot and it stays warm for hours in the carafe, no heating element to burn the coffee
    • I purchased this coffee maker unfortunately the unit was dead on arrival and while it brew the first batch of hot water (as per the directions) it then proceeded to leak water and refused to brew ever again
    • the reservoir holds enough water for ten cups
    • Makes the best coffee-4 pots with plain water before to remove plastic smell from water holder wash in warm water with soap and rinse thoroughly. of any maker I have owed
    • then it slowly leaks water all over your counter top.
    • I do wish they came out with more filters for the hard water though
    • I have tried less coffee, smaller batch brews (ie less water), and methodical cleaning, grinding the beans more or less, etc
    • I have tried every possible amount of coffee and have tried numerous brands of coffee yet they all taste like dirty water.
    • I have not figured out how to clean it when the water begins sitting in the reservoir (thinking hard water build up).
    • For those of you with hard water, the coffee maker will track when it's time to descale it
    • We have horrible water, so having the filter is a must for us
    • has complied with the current thinking and uses hotter water than older designs; that's a good thing.
    • The PSTX9 produces 205F hot water for perfect brewing
    • Like all modern drip makers, you must begin with super hot tap water*, (or cold that's been microwaved if your water heater is funky and adds unwanted flavors.
    • I dispensed with the filter, as my water tastes fine and the cleaning cycle should be more than sufficient to take care of mineral build up over time
    • You'll wake up in the morning to a coffee machine sitting in a puddle of hot water and coffee grounds that have spilled out of the top of the basket
    • and if we didn't have hard water, "just don't use it".
    • I received this item and ran 3 pots of fresh filtered water before I made a pot with coffee
    • Suggest you prewarm the carafe with some hot tap water for a minute or so before starting to brew and it will help keep the coffee warm longer
    • Tried adding extra grounds, but was not able to taste anything but hot brown water.
    • One note: be sure to rinse out the thermal pot and the water reservoir with warm, soapy water after each use to avoid contamination from hard water if you have it.
    • I preheat the stainless carafe with hot water while prepping the machine, and yet the coffee still needs to be microwaved 2 hours later.
    • while this is a thermos coffee maker, it only holds coffee moderately warm for about two hours unless you preheat the thermos (fill with hot water) before making coffee.
    • One must boil water and warm up the carafe before brewing coffee .
    • 1st box was damaged and water tank was broke
    • Either way, hot water reduces the adsorption ability of the charcoal, so you're getting most of the chlorine anyway
    • Pros: incredibly fast, convenient removable water reservoir, easy to clean
    • Pros: incredibly fast, convenient removable water reservoir, easy to clean
    • I seriously needed a new coffee maker that was both sleek and modern looking as well as make a great cup of coffee, and that was also very well sealed to keep out my recent infestation of roaches from getting in the water tank well and the coffee pot as well, and it does it all very well
    • If you wait too long to due a cleaning your coffee maker will poop out due to hard water deposits build up.
    • I have to add way more coffee than I normally do to make it taste a little better than hot black water
    • so it must be preheated with hot water before use
    • We didn't notice right away until we saw rusty water leaking from this seam.
    • It will not brew and leaked water out all over my counter tops
    • I'll repost when it craps out on me.*About using hot water. .
    • wasted my coffee and my money, you feel like drinking hot water.
    • I have hard water and haven't followed the cleaning instructions always as I should, but despite, the item works great.
    • Must use filtered or distilled water (tastes wonderful) for long life of this machine
    • Standing water is a problem waiting to happen
    • Since we have hard water in the area, the water deposits could cause a problem
    • I love the detachable water tank it make it easy to make coffee.
    • The 'filter' contraption on the top of the brew basket is slightly annoying, however, it does help the taste if you have bad water
    • You could remove the filter in the morning and run it under hot tap water first (while you're half awake wishing for a cup of coffee), but what's the point
    • the one they sent as a replacement - and neither machine did the two things required to make good coffee.1.The water does not reach the recommended brew temperature as the water pours over the coffee grounds
    • It must be turned upside down to empty the rest of the water to ensure you do not have stale water inside the machine for your next brewing cycle
    • One must boil water and warm up the carafe before brewing coffee .
    • You can take the fresh water holder out and clean it good and proper.
    • One note: be sure to rinse out the thermal pot and the water reservoir with warm, soapy water after each use to avoid contamination from hard water if you have it.
    • I tried cleaning it with warm soapy water, even with white vinegar, and while the stain faded it's still clearly visible
    • The water filter on top of the coffee basket would seem to be dubious value if one is using decent water
    • I do, however, run hot water through the carafe while i'm setting up to brew.
    • Like the functions and the detachable water reservoir.
    • It has everything you could ever want in a coffee maker, EXCEPT that it brews coffee so weak, it tastes slightly stronger than hot water
    • I considered moving it to another wall, with nothing on it, and just letting the wall get wet, but you need access to both the left (for the water holder) and the right (for the filter)
    • However, I will say that good tasting water is a necessity for good tasting coffee, so if you don't already filter your water, you will find the filter option that comes with the machine very helpful
    • There is a changeable filter, so that all water that goes through the maker is pure
    • Like, brown-tinged water kind of weak
    • I mostly boil some water in my water cooker, and then put it into the thermal, close the lid and let it stand for 5 - 10 minutes
    • The 2nd one only lasted about 3 years before it stopped sucking all the water up for a full pot
    • My old Braun poured as fast as if there were no cap, and it kept the coffee as hot amd for as long as this one
    • I read some of the complaints as well as the many positives before buying and I can say that the complaints are largely 1) user error or 2) impatience
    • I set mine to brew at 8:45 AM, and by noon my coffee was still as hot as if I had just made it
    • My last thermal pot I had to turn the lid to get coffee, this one you only have to push down on a lever as you pour, much easier
    • Love this coffee maker and mine is still working but the rubber seal on the pot is worn out so it is not keeping the coffee as warm as
    • When it happened to my husband twice yesterday morning, and he said his once enjoyable morning routine had turned into a stressful way to start the day, I picked up a simple no frills coffeepot that hopefully will work as it's supposed to
    • If you wait too long to due a cleaning your coffee maker will poop out due to hard water deposits build up.
    • Of note is that the machine will let you know when it is time to clean, and will not make coffee, as far as I can tell, until cleaned.
