  • Great buy, great price, I just don't think you can go wrong MXR, and especially the Custom Badass
  • Awesome sounding tones, low noise floor (with humbuckers), easy to dial in, looks cool, durable design, metal casing, great price.
  • But the Badass '78 by MXR is a very nice pedal for a decent price.

Reviews around setup (5.00 of 5)

  • Basically, if you get the right setup, you'll get great tone.
  • I'll best honest, I preferred my setup of Boss Blues Driver (Overdrive) and my ProCo Rat pedal but this was a solid guitar pedal (though the construction is not on par with other MXR pedals with the cheaper metal box)

Reviews around range (5.00 of 5)

  • I particularly love it with the Telecaster, as it sounds crispier and emphasizes mid range really well, specially with the crunch option activated
  • Nice range of sounds, lots of volume output and the tone knob and the crunch button give very much versartility to your guitar sounds
  • For just power chord punk-ish stuff, I'd prefer the DS-1.The tone knob provides a good range of possibilities to fit your rig and sound

Reviews around player (5.00 of 5)

  • I'm a classic rock player these pedals have a classic 60s + vibe.
  • Now I can tell why so many of my favorite players depend on MXR pedals, these guys have nailed killer tone.
  • I wouldn't recommend for players seeking that Djent high gain modern metal tone

Reviews around way (5.00 of 5)

  • When the output was put all the way to the right some volume was gained, but not as much as I was supposed to have
  • I love the way it looks and the versatile sounds.

Reviews around volume (5.00 of 5)

  • Boss super overdrive.ernibal volume
  • Good volume roll off tones , at full bore it sounds like VH, and some other 80s rock dudes
  • When the output was put all the way to the right some volume was gained, but not as much as I was supposed to have

Reviews around guitar (5.00 of 5)

  • I'll best honest, I preferred my setup of Boss Blues Driver (Overdrive) and my ProCo Rat pedal but this was a solid guitar pedal (though the construction is not on par with other MXR pedals with the cheaper metal box)
  • I do want to point out that my favorite guitar tone is a thicker metal sound like Phinehas, Haste the Day, Skillet, or War of Ages, but that obviously doesn't fit everywhere
  • This allows the guitar to be mixed well with no blaring guitar cab in churches and provides minimal transportation

Reviews around music (5.00 of 5)

  • Great overdrive/distortion for classic rock music.
  • I love heavy music but I play in a Christian rock band and various praise band groups so my board and rig goes from nice cleans with chorus and delay to overdriven (MXR Zakk Wylde pedal is my favorite) to a more classic rock tone (this pedal) to a nice juicy metal tone (I have a cheap Joyo pedal now, but soon to be replaced with an MXR

Reviews around job (5.00 of 5)

  • However, the tone knob does do a pretty good job of rolling back the high end, especially if you activate the "crunch" button
  • Good job MXR!

Reviews around distortion (4.40 of 5)

  • The distortion range does not get as hot as a RAT or MXR classic distortion but it sounds great with a telecaster and tube amp
  • I bought this pedal wanting classic distortion and find it more useful as an overdrive pedal
  • I was looking for a nice distortion for classic rock and maybe some blues
  • but it's definitely more of a classic crunch distortion than a heavy rock sound.
  • Very rough distortion though

Reviews around rock (4.03 of 5)

  • I would steer clear of this if you are looking for a pedal for metal and definately buy it if you are into classic rock, twang, and blues.
  • If you love classic rock and you think guitar tone died after the early 80's, you'll love this pedal
  • but if you're after that classic rock or hard-edged blues or modal jazz bitchy brews action... yer gunna totally
  • It doesn't do metal or super high-gain, but offers some nice classic rock tones and can be quite warm if you back off on the tone knob
  • I was looking for a nice distortion for classic rock and maybe some blues

Reviews around sound (3.44 of 5)

  • Still, I needed a Distortion that could cover of the Marshall sound-like roar JCM-800... and this guy did the job
  • The sounds of this pedal lean more towards the overdrive than distortion.
  • I mean i suppose if you're looking for some modern thrash sound (great for blues-based modern metal) you'll wanna look elsewhere, or if you're looking for a really clean jazz or blues distortion to throw a lil' hoodoo on your sound without a whole lotta power
  • Very Old school and sounds good on heavy distortion and when you back off of the distortion it has a very clean rhythm sound..............
  • Like the name implies some very cool sounding 70's distortions, not overbearing so your pickups and amp tone still stay in their, I like the mod switch in the top left corner, sounds good with my compressor infront (MXR).
