If you try to sign up to a hot spot plan they will tell you that, you can't use it because they want you to use their device which they will try to sell you
The biggest problem is, it is not the providers Hot Spot and they want you to use theirs so they are not going to be very helpful
And unlike those cheap hot spot devices, you can put your own wireless router in and connect as many devices as you want, and connect through ethernet cords.
Beyond this limit, tmobile will reduce the hot spot service to 0.4M bps.

With correct activated sim card, it will work same as your cable modem when connected to your home router

I obtained a SIM card and added this device to my existing AT&T unlimited data plan with no problems whatsoever
Took a couple of days to get ATT to give me an unlimited plan but it was well worth the time.
I am using this with my AT&T unlimited plan to get internet where no other options but satellite exist.
If you are using a mobile phone plan exclusively as a hotspot they might have issues even if you're staying under the 10GB hotspot limit if more than half your data is coming from hotspot use (or whatever limit your particular plan may have)
The pass-though mode doesn't work as you'd expect, so save yourself hours of tinkering and just use router mode.3

What this translated to using my current setup was this: after they throttled the hotspot speed, I ran Speedtest on my iPhone while connected to Wi-Fi and was still getting great download and upload speeds (no throttling noticed).

Update 30 Oct 2017:I have bad news for those of you on the T-Mobile network:The T-Mobile network seems to recognize this device as a hotspot/tethering device, and throttles the speed accordingly
Already I was getting better internet speeds than with my current DSL service
However, it's interesting to note they do not throttle LTE speeds on your mobile devices, just your Hotspot speed.

If you rely on cellular service for your main internet, this device is so much better than using just a "wifi hotspot", to conect your devices.
Over a year later and this device is still working great.
It shows up in my account as an "unknown device".I get download speeds from 20 - 60 Mbps with this modem.

I am able to run the unit in router mode, but since it is plugged into the WAN port of my Asus router, I am now double NAT-ed, which breaks things (devices outside my network can no longer connect to my CrashPlan backup server)

This was intended to replace the deteriorating Centurylink DSL I've been stuck with since Qwest days
I purchased the Netgear 4G LTE Modem as a trial replacement for that expensive DSL service that has only able to achieve 11MB down and 1MB up max at best and constantly requires a reboot of the DSL modem to get it working again
I only have one internet provider where I am which provides very slow DSL with an average download speed of 3mb/s and upload of less the 0.5mb/s
