The gorgeous background blur I get from this lens is just what I was looking for to start out with my Nikon D7000 to get some nice in home quality shots of the new youngins.

Without a flash)I recommend to use a good B+W or Hoya Multicoat UV protector filter on it always

Reasons can be multiples, but I suspect the lens can't focus well if the light differential is too high or if there is too much movement around the aimed area.- it works better on older models such as the D3100 or D7000 ;- the minimal distance focus is almost as long as the one of a zoom lens like the 55-200m

f/1.8G can be used with a DX body as well as with an FX with no vignetting or corner sharpness issue such as I described.

The clarity is markedly superior and the low light photos the 50mm 1.8g are amazing

Measured in terms of optical performance alone, the 1.8G has a slight advantage over the 1.4G in corner acuity even at f/1.8 but more so at f/2.0 and above.

The quality isn't as good as the f/1.4G but its pretty close to it!I highly recommend this for any one who loves bookeh!!
