Sharp, beautiful bokeh (never really understood the term, "creamy bokeh" until I got this lens), and light

My best lens for portraits, it achieves a really nice bokeh.

Bokeh is the background blurring while the subject is in focus.

As with most lenses you may tend to lose a bit of sharpness at bigger f-stops, but even wide open at 1.8 this lense renders rather sharp images with soft & smooth bokeh

You can learn to shoot with shallow depth of field and get that nice bokeh to give your photos the "pro" look that differentiates your pictures from your in-laws' point and shoot (not saying that it's not possible with the kit lens, but the sharpness and contrast should be superior on this one).Yes, you have to move around a little but it will definitely help to learn composition
