This lens gives you great portraits and you can use it as a macro lens at 1:1 magnification.

With my Nikon D5100, this lens is an equivalent of a 75 mm lens, so it can be affordable portrait lens for Nikon DX camera.

I bought this after using the starter kit lens for awhile to elevate my portraits and it simply has the softness and blur that I enjoy seeing in more professional photography

I use it on my D7100 which makes it a 75mm (so it acts like a small telephoto lens) but has allowed me to take very nice portraits as well as landscape shots thanks to its speed

It makes a wonderful portrait lens with the tight view of field using a D90, and if you want something wider you can use the 35mm f/1.8 DX lens.

The lens has nice bokeh and is a must own if you want some pleasant portrait shots on a crop sensor camera.

Anyway, pictures are amazing, great in low light-- no flash needed, quick focus for sporting events, takes great portraits too

It is really light so it is easy to carry around on the camera and even though it has a fixed focal length at 50mm I have had fun creating some awesome portraits and landscapes with it

It's an almost perfect portrait lens on a DX sensor (gives us ~75mm focal length).

Reasons can be multiples, but I suspect the lens can't focus well if the light differential is too high or if there is too much movement around the aimed area.- it works better on older models such as the D3100 or D7000 ;- the minimal distance focus is almost as long as the one of a zoom lens like the 55-200m

f/1.8G can be used with a DX body as well as with an FX with no vignetting or corner sharpness issue such as I described.

As a matter of fact, I cranked the AF refinement up to a +20 and it seemed to be just as good as when it was zero

So i returned it and now i'm confused, cause i don't know which FX lens will help me get as sharp as i can do with my DX 7200 & 40mm micro combination.

The focus on this lens doesn't seem to be as sharp as it should be.

but it clears as soon as you stop down half a stop

I let a coworker borrow this on her dx, she and I were both amazed at how incredible her images turned out being despite her newness to photography.f/2.0-2.2 are my favorite for portraits; within a few minutes its simple to get down the depth of field, as distance in front as well as behind the subject really makes the shot

I love his lens as I this is very light and good for portrait with DX camera
