While not "long" like a 200mm zoom, the f 1.8 aperture and pressing the ISO have dramatically improved the quality of the pictures, even when cropped in editing to offset the loss of length

i took this to a car show and i had to stay way to far back from he cars to get what i wanted in the frame.great lens as far as image quality, great for street photography or portraits or anything else you may want to shoot that you can a distance away from what ever your shooting.

I have used several different portrait lenses, and this one is my favorite because of the impeccable quality of photos it produces

However, the 50 mm is great for what it's for ....awesome quality pics, awesome bokeh, lightweight (plastic) yet most likely very durable

but I love the quality I'm getting and its so nice its able to take pictures under low light situation with better quality

Reasons can be multiples, but I suspect the lens can't focus well if the light differential is too high or if there is too much movement around the aimed area.- it works better on older models such as the D3100 or D7000 ;- the minimal distance focus is almost as long as the one of a zoom lens like the 55-200m

f/1.8G can be used with a DX body as well as with an FX with no vignetting or corner sharpness issue such as I described.

As a matter of fact, I cranked the AF refinement up to a +20 and it seemed to be just as good as when it was zero

So i returned it and now i'm confused, cause i don't know which FX lens will help me get as sharp as i can do with my DX 7200 & 40mm micro combination.

The focus on this lens doesn't seem to be as sharp as it should be.

but it clears as soon as you stop down half a stop

I let a coworker borrow this on her dx, she and I were both amazed at how incredible her images turned out being despite her newness to photography.f/2.0-2.2 are my favorite for portraits; within a few minutes its simple to get down the depth of field, as distance in front as well as behind the subject really makes the shot
