The Shield remains as the best all round streaming device, if you're interested in getting Android TV into your entertainment setup
However, if high quality audio is not issue for you or you don't have an audio system, save your money and buy a much cheaper streaming device or streaming stick.
:This is hands-down the best tv streaming device out there
Just another streaming box that struggles to play local NAS video files
dont buy an inferior streaming device with an outdated clunky interface
There is a SmartThings usb add-on for direct control of zwave and zigbee products or a USB TV tuner addon for the best quality HDTV you can get over an antenna
Good looking opening interface; very future looking, great picture quality, very good if you are a gamer
It screams "Quality!
as fast, amazing quality, easy to use, LOVE the ability to type with the phone app instead of scrolling through each letter and hitting select
1st, the hardware is top quality & best option regarding the SoC & Ram
So here I am stuck with this expensive little box sitting in my garage
Remains the best Android TV box in the market to this date
Those bad reviews must be some bad boxes or bad wi-fi...because this box screams
This is one of the most expensive boxes and for the price, it is somewhat disappointing as Nvidia has obviously partnered with google and made their box proprietary as the "google play" that is part of the internal software will not allow apps such as "firefox, amazon music and so forth" to be installed or even located on google play
These are people who don't understand and don't know how to use a powerful Android box.
However, if high quality audio is not issue for you or you don't have an audio system, save your money and buy a much cheaper streaming device or streaming stick.
All consider, the Nvidia Shield Android TV is an excellent streaming device
I have had the device for 3 months and it has failed already.
dont buy an inferior streaming device with an outdated clunky interface
The best Android TV device on the market and one of the best streaming devices by far
apps works fine as well but you'll have to jump through some hoops to get non "TV" apps to work correctly.
Any apps that don’t have an equivalent for big-screen TVs are disabled
This product does not tell you that the apps available are severely limited
Google should've just used regular android with a custom TV launcher.the android TV store is basically empty compared to the regular store, installing APKs is possible but is very annoying, and getting the apps to show up on the homescreen, also annoying, installing Chrome is possible, then you have to use a keyboard and mouse AND remote as there is no back button
Just not enough "horsepower" under the hood to run difficult apps
I looked online and there is some known issue I tried the fix it works better but is still not the best
This is a known issue on the forums.7) Transferring files over the local network to the Shield is a literal nightmare as the device does not show up on the network half the time
, I really enjoy this Media player, It's 4K capable
Vudu constantly buffers during playback; which has been a known issue since the Oreo update, but no fix.3
Using Shield -> Receiver -> TV, just have to make sure the receiver is 4K capable and use high quality HDMI cables that can process 60hz.
