So this media server that I purchased specifically to play videos with my Samsung TV because it is advertised as having an "Enhanced Media Experience for Samsung Smart TVs" was a complete waste of time and money.
I was unable to locate any app that allowed my NEW Samsung Smart TV to connect to the Seagate Central unit
n’t loose on it.
This product is advertised to work through their own app with Samsung Smart TVs from 2012 and up.
I also have a 2013 year Samsung SMART TV and there is no Seagate App for the TV.
I now bought a 3tb unit and it is working great and good price
The Seagate Central TB4 is a great price for what you get.
And, “We do offer file recovery services (at a hefty price)
Transferred all my content over (right under 3TB worth [using the 3TB Seagate Central]) and even though it has a very slow r/w speed compared to most other drives I've used at least it actually worked as a backup drive.
Seagate customer service offered data recovery service for a ridiculous price
There are files and folders which magically lose their permissions (even though I am connected as an administrator to all devices and I tried using the paragon NTFS for mac utility)
It shows up in my network devices in Win 8.1 and both my Public and private personal folder are accessible.
The folder that the other folder was in stopped responding, and another file transfer stalled up
Unfortunately, this device is S-L-O-W, as in REALLY SLOW
My TV can access only files on the public folder and not files from the secured folders.
Here comes the fun part, I had to pay $500 for data recovery.
But Seagate does offer to charge the customer separately for data recovery services

Initial setup was a major pain and was not helped by poor instructions
Setup was absurdly easy, and now this NAS is backing up mine and my roommates Macs in the house, as well as serving our PS3 and Apple TV's (through an app on my iPad :-( ) with tasty iTunes media content
Setup was reasonably easy although not very intuitive; there's a website you are directed to for instructions etc
Very easy setup (although a bit troublesome to set up afterwards)
easy setup except of the cloud had to be with tech support for hrs then herd to clean and reboot the drive
The transfer rate is fast enough to stream HD movies from the 55-inch Samsung Smart TV.The only drawback so far is that remote access is bit slow for large files, like videos
Slow and erratic access, much less than what I expected
Also, for the Central the remote access is only free for two years, after that there is a $20.00 subscription fee
Remote access worked for half a day and then it would not recognize my login and password
I would rate it as a perfect 5, however, the remote access is horrendous
Works great as a media storage and plays pack content to Xbox One.
I would not recommend this drive to anyone who wants to use it for it's reported purpose: i.e. networked attached storage.
It wants to default to Cloud Storage settings (no, thank you.)
Transferred all my content over (right under 3TB worth [using the 3TB Seagate Central]) and even though it has a very slow r/w speed compared to most other drives I've used at least it actually worked as a backup drive.
Really disappointing as I had high hopes for this drive
Seagate support did quickly respond and opened a ticket, but they have already referred me to their Data Recovery service as a cure.
Seagate Support offered the phone number of Seagate's Data Recovery Division, who could remove the data from my old unit and put it on a new drive.
this is basically like holding your data hostage as I'm sure if you sent it in they would be happy to sell you a drive to copy it to and charge you to copy it to
With the first failure I lost 2plus T of data that I can not replace
With the first failure I lost 2plus T of data that I can not replace
For me this has been a perfect solution for everyone in the house to have access to all our digital photos
Unfortunately, this device is S-L-O-W, as in REALLY SLOW
We were just looking for an easy solution for photo sharing without having copies on each computer or having to use a portable drive moving around from computer to computer
There is a solution out there, but the gentle folks at Seagate refuse to divulge it
This is an unacceptable solution and puts all the burden on the customer and allows Seagate to skate
Transferred all my content over (right under 3TB worth [using the 3TB Seagate Central]) and even though it has a very slow r/w speed compared to most other drives I've used at least it actually worked as a backup drive.
I've rechecked everything on my network, everything is connecting at 1GBit per the router lights, and this is the only device on my network that is showing this poor R/W performance
whereas before the best I could achieve was ~10-13mb/s and sometimes worse
I had read numerous reviews panning the upload speed, and I experienced 1.5 MB/s, which was in line with what I expected (but agonizingly slow when you're putting up digital copies of movies at 1-2GB a pop)
Streaming media through the iOS app for iPhones or iPads works as described.
This thing was also a breeze to set up to the point that I'd say that almost anyone could set this up - even your parents.
I set this thing up and it worked great for a couple of
Setup worked fine, and it showed up, but the damn thing is SLOW SLOW SLOW when it comes to transferring files
The thing is so gosh darned slow that I cannot use it as my iTunes library volume
However, for the price, this thing delivers for novices and entusiasts alike.------------------------Blow-by-blow review below:------------------------Before I get to all the great things about it, lets set expectations
The transfer times were fast by direct connecting the drive to my computer and the initial Time Machine back-up went as fast as when I set up my Western Digital 1TB drive.
I can't say anything about the "slow" transfer speeds as they are very fast compared to my Buffalo
not lightning fast transfer speedI dont plan on surfing my personal documents from an unencrypted, wireless connection because I am not an oblivious moron - so that function really doesn't matter.
The excruciatingly slow transfer speeds (it would take you something like 202 days to fill this disk up) will drive you crazier than the excruciatingly painful and unreliable connectivity
Transferred all my content over (right under 3TB worth [using the 3TB Seagate Central]) and even though it has a very slow r/w speed compared to most other drives I've used at least it actually worked as a backup drive.
Although some of the reviews for this product are mixed, my experience was exceptional.
I have never had a bad experience with their products until now, but this is one is really bad.
It is my first bad experience with a Seagate product, but enough to keep me away from Seagate products for a while given the many competing product and services out there
It is my first bad experience with a Seagate product, but enough to keep me away from Seagate products for a while given the many competing product and services out there
The product is slow and it will be damaged in 1 year or less. very bad experience with two HD that I bought
You will find many online, negative reviews of the Seagate Central product which are immediately followed by a Seagate support response
Amazon fills up a bad product with cooked up Vine reviews from people that get the product for free and feel obligated to give great reviews
However, I have been reading the other negative reviews and will update this if I run into any problems.
Even after reading all of the negative reviews, I made the purchase and hoped that maybe all of the others were just too impatient to make this work.
You may well tag this review as just another one of those 'rare' instances of someone complaining about a product that, statistically, will fail from time to time.

Seagate's listing for this product contains a significant ERROR: "Owners of Samsung Smart TVs and Blu-ray Players can take advantage of a unique Seagate Central app featuring visually rich media icons and remote-control navigation

Forget about connecting usb to usb, too - this disk will not work unless it's part of your network, and then you can look forward to never connecting and, if you do, the awful transfer speed
so I'm stuck with an expensive paper weight that looks like a hard disk
The Dashboard software works quite well for realtime automatic backups, although Windows treats it like just another external hard disk and allows you to manually backup or transfer files to and from it as well.
Seamless remote disk access: The SMB implementation is solid
If your connection between the computer and the hard disk is 100mbps, the transfer rate will be 100mbps/8, that will be 12.5MB/s, on a test of transfer speed, I got a transfer speed of
