The 2M Blue is an upgrade from the Red. The 2M Blue uses the same structures but employs a highly polished nude-elliptical stylus for much better tracking and quieter reproduction, as it reaches deeper into the record’s grooves. The 2M Blue easily ou...
A good quality phono preamp is a must, tube preamp recommended
On a budget and on the go, a cheap CD player or an iPod is far better and obviously more practical than a cheap record player, but a record played on a basically decent turntable with a good quality cartridge and needle made by a reputable company is altogether a vastly different kind of experience than listening to a digital source the same way
If you enjoy the sound of music coming through your Macbook Pro’s built in speakers using the EQ within iTunes, or if you enjoy the sound quality of your Bose Quiet Comfort headphones, then this cartridge is for you
I feel like this is the cartridge that was built and designed for the iTunes generation, who have been primarily listening to digital music throughout their lives and perceive and equate those boosted highs and lows to good sound quality (see
Very detailed and warm and if this thing gets better with time I'm going to be VERY happy
I have read so many good things about it and have a hard time coming to terms with what I am missing from it that everyone else hears
Interesting thing is that I then found several Ortofon authorized dealers in my area that had the cartridge in stock for the exact same price as Amazon.
Now, I hear a lot of great things about the Grado, and probably would have been stoked to have that.
(And to think after 40 or so hours of playback, supposedly this thing is going to be broken in and sound even better!!)

But I can tell you if you have a cheap or moderate cartridge that came with a decent but not severely overpriced turntable, the difference this thing makes is worth every penny
By the way, I use a cheap RP1 turntable and a cheap chinese tube amp with original large advent speakers
I highly recommend the Ortofon which I have installed on my Yamaha YP 801 turntable.

The 2M Blue uses the same structures but employs a highly polished nude-elliptical stylus for much better tracking and quieter reproduction, as it reaches deeper into the record’s grooves
The 2M Blue easily outperforms the older, more expensive and very popular OM-30
The 2M series of cartridges feature Ortofon’s trademark split pole pins, an invention which enables moving magnet cartridges to have flat frequency response, just like a moving coil cartridge. Ortofon invented the Split pole pin technology and were originally offered in the 500 series and Super OM series
The 2M series was developed in conjunction with Danish designer Møller Jensen Design – the same designer who designed the award winning MC Jubilee and very successful Kontrapunkt series. Inspired by the facets of a diamond, whose contours gracefully trace the grooves on a record’s surface, the 2M ’s handsome elegance establishes a great combination of form and functionality
The 2M series is designed for precise and accurate retrieval of the information in the record groove
Ortofon' s philosophy is to make cartridges which reproduce the record grooves as accurately as possible, without coloring the sound
The 2M series design has been optimized for ease of mounting and their weight and size fit virtually any current turntable. The name 2M was selected among several ideas
Ortofon wanted a modern name which would be both easy to pronounce and to remember, therefore an alpha numerical name was chosen
Mathematically 2M can be also represented as MM , which also happens to be the abbreviation for moving magnet
Of course the 2M isn't just another pretty face
Engineered to the highest standards the 2M series follows Ortofon’ s unrelenting commitment to providing the most precise and accurate reproducti
