As many have stated, this has to be the best value in a $100 cartridge out there

My feeling is that if you like the sound of the shure you will like this cartridge even more as they have a similar Timbre quality and tonal signature...for the budget conscious the Shure M97xe might be a better buy as it offers good sound at a cheaper price... but audiophiles are usually willing to pay more for something that is slightly better and so this cartridge falls into that category almost as if it were designed and priced to compete against the Shure M97xe

The sound quality is amazing and the deeper sounds such as treble and bass come out booming

Switching to this Ortofon 2M undeniably improved the sound quality just like that

I am astounded at how much this improved the sound quality of my setup

I have cleaned all my vinyl with a spin cleaner and I use a duster before I play, so there is very little dust that gets on the needle while playing, but it is super-sensitive to any dust.

And once you put some good vinyl under this needle, it's pretty damn amazing.

I suppose it is good if you like your vinyls to sound warm and muddy, with no detail

The dynamic range, the detail, and groove accuracy is almost breathtaking

Good mid-range and nice treble, neither bright nor warm

I immediately noticed wider dynamic range, deeper lows (but not muddy lows), very clear and pronounced mids and crisp highs.

I really like the Ortofon "balls to the wall" dynamic range

Sonically, it has a nice range on what most listeners are going to spin on their turntable

I conducted a very expensive experiment when replacing my trusty Red, buying the Ortofon Black, tried it, not impressed, sold it - Bought the Blue, tried it, hated it, then ended up back with the Red again

I would highly recommend the 2M red as a great entry level turntable upgrade.

the mat has been replaced with a cork mat the underside of the unit has been lined with Weather Wrap for vibration control, the original RCA wires have been replaced with RCA jacks; the wire now used is Steren's OFC insulated cable with Gold tip ends...

Both are amazing entry-level audiophile cartridges, but the Ortofon just puts a bigger smile on my face when I listen to it.

Bought a Nagaoka mp 110 and blew this Ortofon 2M away

Once I set up the Ortofon, WOW... the beautiful warm sounds were just crystal clear

Where the Shure was muddled, the Ortofon was bright and clear, reproducing details and conveying nuances to the passages that was completely absent from the former

Even though it's not fully broken in yet, the Ortofon is uncovering all kinds of music that was always there, but never heard on my LP collection

It was a nice upgrade from the one that came with my turntable.

I will not go in to all the great specs with this cartridge, there are much more knowledgable people out there for that, but suffice it to say, this is an outstanding replacement/upgrade especially for the money

Bought this cartridge as an upgrade on a denon turntable and was incredibly dissapointed in the sound

It was an excellent upgrade for the Audio-Technica Cartridge (AT95E)

What a drastic change over the shure blue lable which is a great sounding cart like night and day the sound stage is wide and crisp and its only been one album on

However if you can afford a $20,000 cart go ahead with that
