Personally I use the side pocket for a small screen cleaning cloth, not sure I would want to use it for a card.- All buttons are lined up to my phone perfect, nothing gets hidden ( IPhone 8 )- No issues for people to hear me during a call be on the ear or on speaker.- Works great without issues when I place it on my wireless charger .If you will be putting any sort of cards in the pocket I would recommend you do have a screen protector on your phone.

and it just happened to be on a set of concrete steps, and the phone hit a corner of the concrete in such a way so as to crack the screen, even though she had a protective case

It protects the screen of my phone as well as my phone itself

Within a week I dropped my phone and shattered the screen

No screen protector and it’s never cracked my screen when dropping from height distance.

I like that the cover protects the screen, but it does make it a little awkward to take pictures.

I have also coupled it with a glass protector to further protect my screen.

The frame of the case that holds the phone in place sticks out enough that I know it will protect the screen in case if I drop it, especially when the front flap is closed shut.
