OXO On Barista Brain 9 Cup Coffee Maker (8710100)
Style Name:9 Cup Coffee Maker
A delicious cup of coffee is art and science combined; the art of extracting rich flavors and aromas from coffee beans and the science of time and temperature colliding in just the right way, at just the right moment. ...
I did receive this product free for testing purposes, but I would recommend it to a friend.
OXO’s pricey coffee products are not good quality and the company offers sub-par customer support.
I don't understand why they are advertising that you can select 2-4 or 5-9 even though it brews the entire tank every time...this product is a waste of money and will be returned soon.
I would highly recommend this product that I was given to me for free for testing purposes!
Given 4 stars instead of 5 because one very annoying product flaw: when you remove the carafe from it's holder, coffee always drips down requiring daily cleanup and causing coffee to get on the bottom of the carafe when it is re-placed.
An amazing coffee maker that's simple to use, with very consistent brewing results
It brews a great cup of coffee, is easy to use, easy to clean up, and fairly quiet when brewing.
Thermal carafe works well - to retain heat in the coffee one should temper the pot with boiling water prior to brewing.
The ball mechanism on the bottom of the brew basket it drippy, so you have to wipe it up every time you use the carafe.
During brewing, or after brewing when the brew basket lid is opened, a little hot water leaks out of the water bridge, and the large open passage between the basket and tank is meant to drain this bit of water back into the tank instead of letting it go into the pot.
I also don't like the installation design of the stopper into the carafe.
I loved the design, features and quality of coffee that the machine produced
I love the sleek design and features on the coffee maker
and I really like the design of the coffee maker itself!
This valve should stop the flow of coffee when the pot is removed from the base, but due to poor design and a weak spring, it rarely closes and coffee runs out of the cone and onto the base.
At the point it completes the cycle, the coffee made by this machine is certainly as good as, if not perceptibly better than that of the Bonavita or Capresso; but the coffee keeps better in the caraffe, it pours into the cup better, and it is much less susceptible to filter handling errors that result in rivers of hot coffee running across the counters, down the cabinets, and onto the floor.
My only complaint is the water/condensation that stays in where you pour the water as well as under the lid it sort of gets trapped under that rubber piece which makes me worried about mildew
I have tried it with grinding my own beans, as well as, with grounds and the coffee is amazing
This tastes as good as, if not better than, the clever coffee method and is much faster and easier to make
We verified the water was the proper temperature, and we simply don't know exactly WHY the coffee isn't tasting as good as it could, but we've decided to return this and go with a less expensive option
This machine makes excellent coffee but the machine is truly cheap plastic.
I have tried it with grinding my own beans, as well as, with grounds and the coffee is amazing
Between the cheap ABS plastic, Intertek listing, and loose, rattly buttons the construction does not inspire confidence
We verified the water was the proper temperature, and we simply don't know exactly WHY the coffee isn't tasting as good as it could, but we've decided to return this and go with a less expensive option
but I absolutely did not want a hunk of cheap plastic sitting on my kitchen counter
I've gotten a compliment on it every time someone comes into my kitchen
We HAVE only had it a short time and so far we love it.
It is easy to setup and program and the coffee it brews is consistent every time!
But to open either the water refill top, or to access the brew basket to insert a filer and coffee, I need to pull the coffeemaker each time to the edge of the countertop, so that it can clear the cabinets above
Easy to use, makes good coffee, and the carafe keeps it warm a good long time (especially if you preheat it but even if you don't)
The coffee carafe itself keeps the brewed coffee warm for quite a bit if you want to take it off the machine and bring it to a table or desk (if you work from home, as I
The spring is not strong enough on the shutoff valve and does not seal shut when the carafe is removed after it finishes making a pot
; it almost seems like the spring is rusty or something
Very weak spring and too much friction keep the plunger from returning to a closed position when pot is removed.
There seems to be a weak spring in the stopper and it doesn't function as it should
The coffee carafe itself keeps the brewed coffee warm for quite a bit if you want to take it off the machine and bring it to a table or desk (if you work from home, as I
My old Delonghi measured 178deg brew water, and a cheap-o coffee maker I was temporarily using measured 182deg.
Just run my water through my coffee grinds and let's go
the first thing about how good the coffee is, is about the ratio of coffee grinds to water
Ah, science is a harsh mistress!I tasted a marked difference between the two brews, and I favored the brew from the Oxo-Kalita chimera at both the 165 F serving temperature and the non-scalding 130 F temperature I prefer when I'm not paying attention
Don’t forget, opening the carafe in order for me to stick the thermometer and leaving a crack open will lose couple degrees.
(200/201 F degree, etc), couple degrees higher than the 197.6 to compensate any heat lost in the brewing process
Given that the OXO specifically says it holds water at the optimal temperature (197.6-204.8 Degrees F) for coffee, it suggests that yes, boiling hot water (212 degrees F) is much too hot for a great cup of coffee.
This OXO, however, is making fantastic coffee and according to my thermometer the water is hitting the grinds at the required 195-205 degrees.

I know that leaving coffee in the machine all night is not as good as super fresh ground, but that difference is not enough to have me do it right after waking up ... this OXO is great
So happy I did, its so nice waking up to a great brewed pot of coffee even with the coffee being ground the night before
but that means you have to grind the night before and let the grounds be exposed to air all night.

As a total coffee snob, I will give this machine a big thumbs up

Seriously, one of the best home brew machine ever & this is coming from a pure coffee snob!
My old Delonghi measured 178deg brew water, and a cheap-o coffee maker I was temporarily using measured 182deg.
First, let me start by saying I am a total coffee snob, and proud of it.
