In case anyone is wondering, the carafe plate is NOT heated...but the carafe is very well insulated.- Very cool carafe design: there is a rubber "hose" that mixes the coffee as its brewed and poured so that there's no "really strong first cup" scenario

However, for better than $300 for a coffee maker, I would assume that they could figure out how to make a stainless steel vacuum carafe that would keep coffee hot for more than 10 minutes

So when you open the top of the coffee ground section, water always drips out of the spray area, and when you take the carafe out to clean it, water/coffee always drips out onto the heating platform below, and when you unscrew the top of the carafe, water and coffee drips on your counter

If you like your coffee really hot but can still drink with sips, preheat the carafe with hot tap water.

At the point it completes the cycle, the coffee made by this machine is certainly as good as, if not perceptibly better than that of the Bonavita or Capresso; but the coffee keeps better in the caraffe, it pours into the cup better, and it is much less susceptible to filter handling errors that result in rivers of hot coffee running across the counters, down the cabinets, and onto the floor.

My only complaint is the water/condensation that stays in where you pour the water as well as under the lid it sort of gets trapped under that rubber piece which makes me worried about mildew
