OXO On Barista Brain 9 Cup Coffee Maker (8710100)

    • After several months of frequent use with both dark French roast and medium Columbian bean roast coffees, I can say that this coffee maker does in fact unlock flavors in the beans you wouldn't otherwise taste, and leaves less sediment in your cup, than other coffee makers
    • We are fairly fussy coffee drinkers who get fresh roasted beans, grind just before use, etc.
    • I like dark-roasted coffee, however, the coffee from this tastes burnt
    • With a cheap and cheerful Indonesia Organic medium roast bean there was a slight bitterness with the Melitta, which in the OXO was replaced by an earthy/woody/tanniny flavor
    • The "shower head" evenly saturates the coffee grounds and the micro processor takes care of the pump timing for a nice slow roast.
    • We've experimented with dark and medium roasts from a variety of roasters and the coffee is excellent.
    • The "shower head" evenly saturates the coffee grounds and the micro processor takes care of the pump timing for a nice slow roast.
    • My only guess for why my experience was so bad when the reviews for this coffee maker are so good is that most people buying this coffee maker prefer lighter roasts than I do?
    • Of course, all this is moot until one buys the best beans from the best roasters and orders 2-day delivery of one's custom roasted beans to grind no more than the night before
    • we have started roasting our own beans and this take a while to get the roast down right.
    • I drink dark roast black coffee.
    • I can actually tell the difference of the coffee beans I've been buying and discovered that I don't like one particular roast I've been buying for the last 3 years
    • The brightness and sweetness of the Columbian beans really come through beautifully, and with the darker French roast, you can really savor the chocolatey depth
    • but I am a coffee conesuier I love good coffee dark roasts French
    • On the more expensive beans, Kona medium roast, its simply the breadth and clarity of the flavors from the OXO that stands out
    • Best flavor is achieved with fresh roasted beans, (roasted within a week or two maximum), and ground right before brewing
    • After measuring out the exact amount of water, and the exact amount of coffee (Sumatra, dark roast) for one large breakfast cup, I started the cycle, and a couple of minutes later poured my first cup.
    • My old Delonghi measured 178deg brew water, and a cheap-o coffee maker I was temporarily using measured 182deg.
    • I have tried it with grinding my own beans, as well as, with grounds and the coffee is amazing
    • As excited as I was to receive something like this to review from
    • Water doesn't stay as hot in thermos as I would like.
    • At the point it completes the cycle, the coffee made by this machine is certainly as good as, if not perceptibly better than that of the Bonavita or Capresso; but the coffee keeps better in the caraffe, it pours into the cup better, and it is much less susceptible to filter handling errors that result in rivers of hot coffee running across the counters, down the cabinets, and onto the floor.
    • My only complaint is the water/condensation that stays in where you pour the water as well as under the lid it sort of gets trapped under that rubber piece which makes me worried about mildew
    • Well made, easy to assemble and disassemble as well as to clean
    • This tastes as good as, if not better than, the clever coffee method and is much faster and easier to make
    • Overall I'd highly recommend this as long as you can live with those two limitations.
    • It shows cute little water drops on the LED as it brews, and a hot cup once it's done
    • We verified the water was the proper temperature, and we simply don't know exactly WHY the coffee isn't tasting as good as it could, but we've decided to return this and go with a less expensive option
    • coffee maker works as it should, I like
